Did you know there's an Addams Family musical? Me neither. [More:]

I'm sort of dismayed by this. I love the movies that came out in the 90s; number 2 has one of my favorite all time movie lines:

Joan Cusack to Gomez: You're a real lady killer.

Gomez: Acquitted!

This musical? Didn't need to happen.

Anyone catch one of these off-Broadway movie-to-musicals? My friend saw Shrek and said it was awful, and Catch Me If You Can didn't seem to make it out of Seattle.

Yeah, I heard about this. I gather Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth are pretty much all that's keeping it going.

You might like this book.

I knew it! It got meh reviews, so I haven't gotten around to seeing it, though I'm sure Nathan Lane is a delight. Movie-to-musicals, I've seen a few- "Hairspray", which I enjoyed, "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", which I enjoyed (particularly since a friend brought me to the opening and we got to go to the party).... others, too, I'm sure.

Oh speaking of movie musicals, I haven't seen "Billy Elliot", and still want to.

Is Bebe Neuwirth the nightmare to work with that I have heard she is?

I would think so.

I saw it in Chicago. It's not really a terrible show, but there's nothing to recommend it. Mediocre music, an uninspired script, and (at least before the tweak for the transition to New York) the script changed the basic nature of the Morticia character, as well as the essence of the family's relationships with each other. So, it's like bad fan fiction because, Morticia would *never* say that. It just yanks you right out of enjoying what's happening. It's been less than a year (I think) since I saw it and that's what I remember about the show. Not any of the funny lines (and I know there were a few). Not the one really great production number (cause there was at least one). And not any of the tunes.

There will always be good performances by Neuwirth or Lane, but their performances alone don't justify going to see this show.

I have heard the cast recording. "It's Great To Be An Addams" (or something like that) is pretty good, as is a song sung by Wednesday. The rest sounded like they were from the old Addams Family cartoon show, itself pretty bad.

I've been watching some excellent movies lately || Brent Sopel takes Stanley Cup to Chicago's Pride Parade
