Hate the World Cup Refs? Try the training yourself. I had no idea it was so difficult to become a member of the most hated/reviled profession on the planet right now.
I post this because the line judge who disallowed the first Mexican goal today is probably fearing for his life from some Mexican narcos, and is consulting with his psychologist as we speak.

Among the tests were a blood test, an orthopedic examination, a resting EKG, an echocardiogram and a stress test.

Maybe they should also include an eye test.

I read that the problem isn't that there aren't enough good refs, it's that FIFA leaves a lot of talent on the table by insisting on representing a bunch of nations.

That's true. The bad games would still be bad but the good games would be stellar with all the best refs in the world officiating.

I've always thought being a ref would be a lot like journalism- when you do it right, BOTH sides get pissed off at you.

I know that the World Cup isn't fertile soil for displays of good sportsmanship. But I thought the German goalkeeper's behavior was disgraceful.

If necessary to correct for the blind referees, he should have kicked the ball into his own goal.
