Music sugestions? Hank Williams, Hank Snow, Marty Robbins. →[More:] I'm trying to put together a collection of music for a friends mom who is in hospital. Those three names are the suggestions she gave me. Who else might fit the bill? Thanks.
She's looking for country from the '50s. Patsy Cline, Kitty Wells, Lefty Frizzell, Jim Reeves?
This sounds like a job for the iTunes Essentials lists. Look for the '50s Country one, maybe the Cowboy Songs one, and you'll have something like 70 songs from each. Even if you don't get them on iTunes, you can get some good ideas and pick some CDs up at the library.
It's hard to sort out what would remain familiar. I can think of some great stuff from that era, but...I sort of doubt The Louvin Brothers would have been too popular? The Stanley Brothers either.
Jerry Lee Lewis and his Sun records ilk might be too raucous for someone looking for Marty Robbins and Hank Snow, but maybe not.
Other than that...I'm thinking, Faron Young? Webb Pierce? Maybe Carl Smith?
Vern Gosdin once came to visit a radio station I was working at while he was hawking his music on cassette. We told him we didn't play music on cassette, and neither did most radio stations, and within a week or two he sent us a CD. I think we were a step on his path to learning. (This was in the very early 80s.)
