Cameroon the Lake of Death On the evening of Aug. 21, 1986, a cloud of carbon dioxide erupted from Lake Nyos in the mountainous region of northwestern Cameroon. Heavy and deadly, the gas rolled down hills, into valleys and villages, suffocating everything in its path. By the next morning, 1,700 people were dead.[More:]Now, scientists are trying to tame them.

Our planet has this habit of killing us, from time to time. If the Yellowstone Super Volcano goes off, many will be at risk.

I feel like I read a book where a kid did a science project about this. Yes, I did, Lake Overturn by Vestal McIntyre.
