Not the NRA Anthem - funny, I have never really listened to lyrics of this song before.
Then there's their most famous song, "Sweet Home Alabama". Looking up the lyrics to quote them, I found this on a Neil Young fan site. It's good to learn that they didn't mean it to be as 'unrepentantly redneck' as it seems (and even Ol' Neil is okay with it), but it's sad that they never challenged the Redneck Right Wing Hatemongers' "adoption" of the song as their own, as Springsteen and many others have, (but much of the time they probably had bigger problems to deal with or just didn't want to alienate fans, even if they were fans for all the wrong reasons). Since then, though, what's left of the band (one original member left) have thoroughly embraced their Redneckism, even doing concerts promoted by Sean Hate-ity.
But then, "Free Bird" has always seemed to me as a rejection of love, an endorsement of irresponsibility and a declaration of pride in one's inability to change for the better.
