Chapped lip home remedies? [More:]One corner of my mouth is really irritated and chapped. It's really the area where my lip meets the skin, right in the corner. Putting water on it makes it feel better for a minute or two. Various forms of chapstick only make it feel more irritated... it feels like it dries on there and then gets gunky. Does anyone have any home remedies for this? Failing that, would Neosporin lip cream work, if I go pick some up?
Chapstick will only cover it with wax. You need Aquaphor, or perhaps something with shea butter/hemp oil/avocado oil in it. Vaseline works too.

Aquaphor is great because it's useful for other dry parts, and it doesn't have any fragrance or flavor that could irritate it more.

You need Blistex! The Medicated Lip Ointment, in the white tube. That will sink in and truly help your chap. Once that starts working, then Vaseline will begin to help.

I like the one-two knockout, where I first apply Blistex (the ointment) then cover it with a layer of Chapstick (or Burt's Bees) to keep the healing moisture in.

Hmm, I'll check out that Blistex. I am still mad that they discontinued my favorite lip balm, which has pramoxine as a mild analgesic. http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000132G6C Now the only thing that I can find with pramoxine is Neosporin lip treatment, which is $4 a tube or more. But I'll pick up some of that medicated ointment and some Aquaphor. I wasn't aware you could put Aquaphor on your lips. Thanks. :)

Absolutely the Blistex in the white tube. I get really chapped lips whenever I don't get enough sleep (which is often), and that stuff is gold.

I go to sleep with a sick (as in sick THICK) layer of Idomin salva, which is for chapped anything and babies red bottoms. I'll give a terrible morning breath, but a quick wash with cold water and terrycloth, sopa and rub-down of the lips and... The chappy bits are often gone in one night.

Cracks in the corner of the lip might take a few nights. Like two or three.

Vitamin E oil works well for this kind of thing.

you could be allergic to your toothpaste, maybe that's where it's been dripping down when you brush your teeth, so that part stays irritated. Especially if your chin gets red, or part of your chin gets red after you brush your teeth. Try natural toothpaste.

Serena, I don't think that's it... my lips don't usually get like that, it was just that one corner of my mouth. My mom found me some Lysine she had and it was cleared up by the next morning. I use Sensodyne non-whitening.
