have discovered 'Maury' deciding what we need is another Flood.[More:]

In my perfect world we would take all these shows that intersect real lives with a camera off the air. All of them! (arrests, cheaters, 'judge XYZ', everything.)

Or at least, people in them wouldn't act in a personality-projecting psychosis. The way to resolve any issue would be to write letters back and forth, neatly addressed by hand.
NO! On those days when I'm working from home and wading through the most turgid case files, waiting to find out if you ARE the father is often the only thing that makes a long afternoon bearable.

Senyar, have you seen this clip from the show? It is imperative that you do.

I too, enjoy the cheesy fun. Although I do agree that the majority of the "reality" shows can go - I admit I like the judge shows, and an occasional Maury is amusing. Sigh. Have I sunk so low?

Yeah it's not so much an aesthetic concern about the nature of the shows themselves or their prurient sort of appeal to the viewer but something more general that I can't really put my finger on. There's a sort of dehumanization afoot in them. Obviously people act like that off-air too. I just never want to be jockeying with the kinda person who gets all "oh *snap*! how're you gonna step up and be a man to to this kid I'm waiting on ID'ing the dad for while you're still living with mama!" who then braces for an audience reaction. WTF Lady?

I kind of became a fan of A Haunting on Discovery, if anything because it's a fun study in ghost folklore, and given the choice between that or its other timeslot filler, the Grisly Murder Afternoon*, I'll take silly stories about ghosts. And it's funny, because it's always a certain kind of ghost, the kind that's susceptible to sage smooting and Native Americans.

Given the choice for daytime TV, A Haunting will win every time.

* - I know that's not the real name, but I mean, come on.
