Pregnancy Test Variations Hello, this is my first post on MetaChat. For a novel I'm writing, my character takes three home pregnancy tests in a row. Can you tell me if there are three different ways you take these tests, for literary variation? [More:]

In other words: it would be great if she peed on two directly but one had a blue line indicating pregnancy and the other had a purple dot, and she peed into a little cup they provide for the third one, and stuck a stick in it and it turned orange.

Something like that. She is pregnant. I coule make them all up, but I'd like this to sound authentic. For example the pee in the cup one could be ridiculous these days. Or maybe they all turn purple when you're pregnant, and another color would sound ridiculous?

I don't know. I only took one, and that was 18 years ago. Anybody with any more recent experience? thank you
Quick google image search found me three different ways.

Welcome!

Some of them come with digital readouts nowadays, I guess for people who have trouble with decoding symbols or who perhaps enjoy peeing on circuitry.

Um, the peeing in a cup is not ridiculous. I found it easier than peeing on the stick. The one I used 4 years ago had a pink line. You saw the line if you were pregnant, but there was no line if not. The directions said you could do it either way .. direct pee or cup method. I'm pretty sure the different brands show the results in their own ways .. a blue dot, a pink line, whatever.

I hope this helps.

And welcome to Metachat.

1. She duct tapes the stick to her partner's chest, and then rips the tape off like a wax job.
2. ...

Well, I think you get the idea.

Well, if we're going for graphic examples, there's the rabbit test (sorry bunnies, my parents-in-law told me of this some while back, and it's always stuck with me).

Also: if there are digital tests, I'd like to imagine one that tells you, in a tinny little voice "YOU'RE PREGNANT! CHEERS, TOOTS!"

It's pretty much all peeing on a stick here.

But you are supposed to do it first thing in the AM for best results. If you get an extra dot you are preggers.

This has to be one of the more intriguing first-posts we've had in awhile. Welcome aboard, DM!

I remember in the sequel to Sooner or Later (early 80's) that Jessie had to fiddle with a miniature chemistry set in the test she had shoplifted.

There's a pee-on-the-stick one that has a pink "plus" sign if pregnant. There's the old pee-on-a-stick ones that have one or two blue lines (two for pregant as I recall). There are digital readout ones now, never tried on of them but I wasted like ten pee-on-a-stick variants when knocked up, getting the instructions for each one confused and had a bit of a comedic scene in the bathroom with myself: Wait, what was this one supposed to do? A dot? *reads instructions* Two lines of blue? I have no lines on this one at all, what does that mean!? Oh, maybe it was this one! Wait, that's a plus sign, what does a plus sign mean, does it mean what I think it means where the hell are the instructions for this one? PANIC

I'm sure it's a lot funnier in my head right now.

Oh, and after that you pop over to the nurse and pee in a cup. They have the cup-plus-stick thing or even better, a urine on rotating plate-thing and a drop of some chemicals thing that answers in 20 seconds. That one is fun to watch as the pee goes gooey whitish if preggars.
