What's for Sunday dinner? I'm having ...[More:]

... a piece of lamb that's been marinating for a day or so in garlic, lemon juice/zest, olive oil, garlic and rosemary. I'm cooking it on a cast-iron griddle.

On checking the fridge, I found that my veggies are not as fresh as I'd like, so I'm grilling them (also on the cast-iron griddle) - red peppers, zucchini and asparagus - and then I'll chop them up and add them to some rice which I've cooked in stock, and to which I'll also add some fresh herbs from the pots outside the back door.

I'll eat it with a wholewheat pita and a little Greek salad on the side.

What are you having?
I'm making some chicken (it's this pre-marinated stuff I bought and froze a while ago that's already cut up) to go with some steamed rice and veggie bags that were on sale for $1 for lunches.

I'll probably make egg in a frames for dinner, since I didn't make them for breakfast.

Sunday, we have heavy snacks after church (today, bagel and lox!), so we generally don't do a big dinner. I think I'm gonna make cream of celery soup.

I found some great portabella mushrooms at the farmers' market, so I also got some ciabatta rolls there, some chevre and sweet onions. It's beautiful here today, so I'm going to grill the portabellas as burgers topped with chevre and sweet onion, fry some new potatoes in the cast iron skillet on the grill and small side salad. I'm really looking forward to this.

Can't decide if I'm going to make some ice tea or get a bottle of white wine to go with this. Ice tea is slightly winning.

I am going to a Cuban restaurant with my parents for Mothers' Day. I don't think I've ever had Cuban food before, but I'm looking forward to it.

Mmm, I still have leftovers from the appetizer-grazing party I threw for Mom's birthday. I've been eating them all weekend. (Last night, I ate the last little bit of chicken liver paté on crusty bread with arugula, dried cranberries, and crusty bread, and figs stuffed with goat cheese and basil then baked until gooey. Soooo good. I love cocktail party leftovers.)

Tonight, I think I'll have some red pepper hummus, heated up, topped with goat cheese and tapenade, and served with baguette slices and crudités.

Then maaaaaaybe a fresh-baked mushroom tartlet; I have both leftover pastry and leftover filling. But that would mean standing up long enough to cook them, and I have a bit of a bug. I don't feel ill, just sore all over. I might just lounge here and eat the easiest leftovers with hot lemon tea.

Well, nobody feels like cooking for Mother's Day dinner, so I think we are ordering take out. Given the wide variety of people and tastes to fulfill, we will probably get food from a bunch of different places.

Pulled a chicken out of the freezer - I'll roast that and start a Chicken Rotation, meaning we'll be having chicken sandwiches and tacos or enchiladas later this week, and at some point a new supply of chicken stock. I made bread dough in the bread machine but shaped it into a French loaf and will cook it in the oven. I got some potatoes at the farmer's market which can go with the chicken. And probably a salad of fresh arugula with that.

I had some mixed lettuces from the garden with lemon dijon vinaigrette for a late afternoon snack. Then I had an ice cream bar. Then I went and bought a bunch of crap at the grocery store, some of which is about making actual meals, but just as much was snacky foods. Then I ate the dregs of a bag of chips.

I have a vase full of swiss chard that I'll do something with at some point, and I thinned my carrots and ate the mini ones that had enough to each on them. So. Cute.

Just ate a yogurt.

Ooooh, chip dregs. That sounds surprisingly delicious at this moment.

Tacos. The mister has already cooked the meat and chopped the onions. All that's left to do is chop the tomatoes and fry the tortillas. The mister hasn't ever made home made taco shells so it's up to me to do that.

I am having a sandwich that I am going to sneak into the movie theater: bread I bought today that uses wine as a starter with apples, peashoots, cheddar, shallots, and ajvar.

Tossed together some burrito-type things from left over chicken and rice. And, for the first time in ages, I've got CHEESE involved. It's nice, this new gall-bladder-less existence. Well so far, anyway.

I just found a recipe for salmon confit that looks amazing, so I'm thinking that plus a salad of arugula, fava beans, and some aged sheep milk's cheese that I got at the farmer's market yesterday (and maybe shallots or red onions or something). Probably with some sauvignon blanc, maybe some roasted potatoes, too.

I hosted my family's Mother's Day do today. There were ten people here for lunch, counting me. And this was a small crowd for us. Besides the meal, I'd prepared a gift for my mother (an owl brooch as she's into owls and collects them, a bottle of vitamin E oil, and a pink phlox for her garden) and bought a small perennial for each of the mothers in the family, as they all garden. For my niece, who loves pink and has a nine-month-old baby, I bought pink baby's breath. Heh!

I previously posted the recipe for my sour cream posy rolls here. They are quite yummy.

Leftover miso soup with leftover udon, mushrooms, tofu, arugula, and green onions. Also I already snacked on a tortilla with hummus and more arugula. It's all so yuppie I'll have to go get screaming drunk in a dive bar or something afterwards.

because of the hockey game tonight, i needed something that could be made over the intermission . i threw 2 mini frozen pepperoni pizzas in the oven, fried some mushrooms and quickly made a salad of baby mixed greens to put on top. i was back in my seat before the puck dropped to start the second period

OK, my improvised salad was awesome. I highly recommend arugula, sheep's milk cheese, fava beans, and pickled shallots, with champagne vinaigrette.
