It's better as a metaphor than as a commercial.

This was a Superbowl commercial a couple of years ago. I liked it then, still do. I hate most commercials so much that I always mute my TV when the program I am watching takes a break and half the time this causes me to miss a few lines of dialogue in whatever show I am watching.

Yeah, I remember this as a superbowl commercial. I think it's funny as heck.

I don't. The commercial is far more mundane than the imagined picture summoned in my head by the phrase "herding cats".

I was familiar with the phrase before the commercial, and found it underwhelming at the actual length. It was more interesting to people, I think, just because of the special effects coup involved in making it look real.
