Monday Morning Three Point Update →[More:]
1. Just took the morning off to stay in my apartment to supervise a job that took my super fifteen minutes to do. The rest of my morning is free. I think I shall take a leisurely stroll, a constitutional, if you will, through the genteel, tree-lined streets of Queens.
2. On Friday, my employers called a meeting, at which they discussed how temporary employees (like me) might become permanent employees. Turns out that there's a strong preference for hiring veterans at that place and that, as a non-veteran, I don't have much of a shot. I'm still a little pissed off because I've been working hard and doing a great job. At the same time, I am grateful that they didn't lead us on, that they were brutally honest about our actual prospects. Which is very refreshing, given the experiences I've had as a temp in the private sector.
3. Saw two openings at the Social Security Administration. One involved working as a telephone services rep but I wasn't diggin' that because the idea of spending seven hours a day on the phone is none too appealing. The other one sounded MUCH better and I will be putting in an application later this week.
