Monday Morning Three Point Update [More:]

1. Just took the morning off to stay in my apartment to supervise a job that took my super fifteen minutes to do. The rest of my morning is free. I think I shall take a leisurely stroll, a constitutional, if you will, through the genteel, tree-lined streets of Queens.

2. On Friday, my employers called a meeting, at which they discussed how temporary employees (like me) might become permanent employees. Turns out that there's a strong preference for hiring veterans at that place and that, as a non-veteran, I don't have much of a shot. I'm still a little pissed off because I've been working hard and doing a great job. At the same time, I am grateful that they didn't lead us on, that they were brutally honest about our actual prospects. Which is very refreshing, given the experiences I've had as a temp in the private sector.

3. Saw two openings at the Social Security Administration. One involved working as a telephone services rep but I wasn't diggin' that because the idea of spending seven hours a day on the phone is none too appealing. The other one sounded MUCH better and I will be putting in an application later this week.
1. Today is my last day of class! Because of work scheduling and a lack of commitment to getting certification (in a field where I already have a degree, I just thought additional cert would help me get a real job), it'll be my last one for a while.

2. It's dress weather and I am taking advantage of that.

3. Yogurt cake for breakfast, yum yum yum.

1. Friday was horrible: Daughter had been down visiting, which is good. On Thursday, she was meeting with a woman who serves as a mentor for local queer kids. . .very cool person. Daughter was frankly discussing her relat. with her girlfriend, in an unvarnished way. Her cellphone was in her back pocket, and it accidentally speed dialed her GF and recorded the ENTIRE conversation on GF's voice mail. A breakup ensued, and we had to go up to Portland Friday and move her out of the apt., esconce her temporarily on the couch of some friends of mine, and say goodbye to crying GF, whom we love. Very sad, and really hard as a parent to realize that 20-year-olds do not have the tools that others have in dealing with this kind of shit.

2. Spent Saturday trying to recover, trying to not be codependent about it all.

3. Sunday, roto-tilled up part of lawn, and prepped and planted new grass seed. Now just waiting for time and rain to give us a new nice lawn in a problem area. Sore today.

1. continuing saga of baby and her sleep cycle being set to GET UP SUPER EARLY AND PLAY when it's my turn to get up with her, and snooozy snooozy sleeeepy baby when it's my husband's turn. Have been mainlining caffeine this morning but will still need to take a nap, I think.

2. Grey weather is grey.

3. Am craving mint chocolate chip ice cream like a person possessed.

1. My HK crush wrote me back. I don't know. I like him, but I will not be back there until next April. It's the other side of the world! And in fact, there are cultural differences. We only muddle about in our respective second languages.

2. So I started filling out some online dating thing. I was actually impressed with the 'matches' in my own city. But spent time this morning filling out the profile questions only to not hit save, and navigate away. Clearly, I have a lot to learn about this dating thing!

3. Absolutely going to get outside and see the sun today and not be completely tied down to my 'puter regardless of the work that is due.

3A. Also want mint-chocolate ice cream now.

3B. Sorry Danf about your daughter and her gf. How sad. :(

1. My father-in-law arrived from Calgary yesterday for his first visit to the sunny south.
2. He likes me! He likes me! He really really likes me! Or else he's just being polite. But I like him, so I hope it's mutual.
3. Today we're taking him to visit the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, then to Bon Ton Hatters (my cousin's shop) to have a hat blocked, and then to Pete's Famous Hot Dogs for a couple of special dogs and an icy-cold Grapico. A very Birmingham day.

1. Am sick. Chinese takeout last night: I would appear to have been slain by the dragon. Lying in bed moaning and trying to drink ginger ale is not what I had in mind for Monday.

2. I do, however, have daughter's laptop in bed with me and I'm liking the 21st centuryness of it all.

3. Adjusting to being in a relationship for the first time in 2 years. Go back and forth tremendously, never sure if I'm over bean plating things or this is normal or this, or this, or this. Trying to live in the moment because the moments are actually very good, trying not to borrow trouble, overanalyze, etc.

1. Having to wake up for work makes me crazy, especially after time off. Today? I got up and took a shower at 2 a.m. Sat up, looked at my iPod and saw the time, read some e-mail and then got into the shower. Only while turning on the water did it occur to me that, hmm, this is pretty early for a shower. But it was nice to reset the alarm for another 5 hours when I got out.
2. Tuna salad for lunch! I know it's wrong to bring fish to the office, but I don't care, I like it, plus I sit relatively alone.
3. Moving our new pastor into the parsonage in two weeks AND hiring a new church secretary. So much to do! So little time! I just want to sit home and eat waffles!

Today we're taking him to visit the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute I enjoyed going there on my tour through Alabmama a few years back. So sorry about your daughter danf.

1. I slept til 11 and am now writing a note to the VT Library Association Board that I may not be able to make the 10 am meeting they'd like me to be at [as webmaster] next week because it's too early. Expecting ribbing. Wondering how they'd feel about getting up at 4 am for a stupid meeting. Wondering if this is the sort of thing I should suck it up and do [I like them, it's good to keep my hand in, meeting will be fun probably] or push back and not do.
2. First "work" day after the meet the bf's parents trip to Arizona which went cool [had same feelign as BOP, either they like me or are being polite to me, either one is fine] and I'm happy to not be in crazy Arizona anymore even though the sun sure was nice.
3. Heading out for a walk real soon now. Sending bf's folks a thank you card with adorable photo of their dog. Trying to be polite/friendly back.

1. One of my cousins found me on Facebook, yay! I really, really like her and wish we had more contact. Hopefully this will help.

2. Bought not one but two outfits suitable for the wedding I'm going to in June! Real clothes, as in skirts and blouses, OMG! Now to find a nice pair of sandals (or two!).

3. Trying to decide whether to colour my hair or not. I like the silver, but it kinda washes me out and, I think, makes me look older than I am.

He's elizard's dad, after all. He HAS to be cool!

1. picked a topic for my undergrad honors thesis. I'll be writing about 50 pages on Shakespeare and the otherworldly (ghosts, magic, alchemy, etc). I also got my first choice of an adviser for it.

2. Speaking of hair color, I'm having an awful lot of trouble finding a dye that will keep my gray colored. It seems to wash off those parts well before the rest demands a redye.

3. I'm really getting into The Decemberists. My roommate is mocking me mercilessly as a result.

1. Work has been surprisingly busy today. I guess we were due for the rush of all the slackers who are all 'oshit it's finals time!'.

2. My moods are swinging all over the place and it is irritating the fuck out of me. I suspect this is due to my sleeping issues.

3. I am quite pissed that it looks like I got ripped off on Amazon when I ordered a copy of AACR2 for my class next term. I've contacted the seller and there's been no response, so I'm giving it a day or so and then it's Amazon asskicking time. I need that fucking book.

1. Yesterday an old ex came up to me with mild lust in his eyes and asked, "how's your new [hasn't been new for 3 years] job?" Thinking he was actually interested in my life, I said, "it's good, the other day at work I..." and he interrupted with "so have you found a new boyfriend yet?" How do you explain to someone that their questions are incredibly rude and insensitive when they're that clueless?

2. Didn't get any down time this weekend. Going to drive me crazy all this week.

3. Eating strawberries at the moment.

1. First client of the week is a no-show, after canceling a rescheduling last week. I like the client and they've been doing the work, so I don't mind being flexible, but this is the last session for them and I kind of want to go ahead and close out the case rather than letting it drag on. Plus, no-showing is annoying.

2. I got attacked by a tree while out hiking yesterday (the dead-ish tree was leaning across the path and I didn't see it because I was looking down to watch the uneven ground), and my head now hurts and has a big bump.

3. It's a beautiful beautiful beautiful day today and I got enough sleep last night and went to the gym this morning and so I'm feeling all bright and cheery and productive, despite no-shows and bumpy heads.

1. In theory I'm on vacation at home today and tomorrow. In reality, I've been working part of every day all through the weekend and today. Expect the same for tomorrow. I was supposed to have a conversation with my boss today at 2 p.m. but she's been unable to talk. Am peeved. This is for a big federal grant, and I just want to be done with it, dammit.

2. Planted much of my garden this morning. 12 tomato plants, 6 peppers, 2 eggplants, 4 ground cherries, 2 basils. Still need to do a bunch more.

3. Am feeling quite crappy, moodwise. a) work thing. b) parents in town driving me nuts c) had to discontinue some meds because they were making me anxious and possibly raising my blood pressure. Sadly, they also contributed quite positively to mental health in other ways.

Oops, boss is on the phone. Gotta run.

1. In spite of my best efforts to keep from needing to, I worked all night to finish a project.

2. I am still behind on several other major projects, all with looming deadlines.

3. Consequently, less than enthusiastic about today.

1. Annoyed with being at work. And at many people around me.

2. Something funny just happened though. Someone in our dept just called and asked if I knew who Mario Lopez was and I was like "uhh, yeah." Then she asked if it would be ok to go ahead and process his invoice and I was like "Oh, wait! I thought you were talking about the one from Saved by the Bell. I never hired anyone with that name."

3. Having dinner with a friend going through a breakup and moving out. Sad. Strangely (or maybe not) this is also happening to another friend across the country.

1. 3 doc appointments this week. 1 could result in surgery.
2. After years of searching, I finally dialed in that Buddy Holly Strat tone.
3. Read a book on blues piano that clears up a lot of the mysteries that guitar players do not usually understand, mainly because many moves cannot be played on a guitar.

1. Walking out in the rain with your new sweetie on Sunday afternoon is only romantic if you don't get sick afterwards and have to work from home on Monday.

2. Guess where I'm typing this from right now?

3. I also had my first dream about my new sweetie and the symbolism wasn't good. Good thing I have therapy tomorrow (and I still have antibiotics now).

1. I move to a new role on 19 May, so the next couple of weeks will be spent handing off my old work to other people.

2. Dinner tonight - spice-crusted fish with veggies, followed by two perfectly ripe plums.

3. I'm reading this, and enjoying it a lot. Anyone who's worked in a big office with a diverse bunch of people who'd never mix outside work will identify.

1. OMG new computer!! I (sort of) impulse-bought a 27" quad-core i7 iMac on Saturday. I've actually been planning to get this thing for months, but happened to find a refurb unit on sale at the Apple online store. The plan is to make it the heart of a properly ergonomic photo / edit suite for me and the mister, to get us both off the laptops (bad posture directly related to couch surfing has contributed to some biggish chiropractor bills for both of us).

2. Social networking does, actually, work. yea, yea, I know, privacy whatever mumblemumbleblahhh. So, yeah, immediately after after said purchase in #1, I posted a semi-serious "ZOMG new computer!!!... ZOMG must sell old computer!!!" status on Facebook, and within an hour I had 2 legitimate "yea, actually we WOULD like to know more about your 2006 single core Macbook Pro, kthxbai" responses from my friend network. Got the old MBP sold by the end of the day. See also: housesitting, petsitting, gardening help, impromptu outings and non-insanity-making facilitation of event plans amongst our Flaky!Friends!! set.

3. April weather in Boulder is about as random and fickle as April weather can possibly get. We've gone OMGSNOW!!! to 70° and cloudless skies (with random wind, rain and hail options), exactly five times over the past week. It's like Mother Nature got herself a PS3 weather controller and has suddenly discovered what all the combi button options do.

1. I had cupcakes for breakfast. Yes, plural. That was about 7 hours ago. I haven't stopped having a bellyache between then and now.

2. So I ate a rice krispie treat for lunch.

3. You know what's weird? I had this really doofy boyfriend for like a minute when I was 13ish. I also have a cousin who was born the year after me and I've never liked her. She would always try to be in my face and hang out with me and do whatever I did. So after doofy boy and I broke up she dated him. I didn't really know her during this time and drifted even further out of her life since then. I've come to find out through facebook that she had a kid around that time. But since I can't figure out how to tactfully ask about this kid (who isn't in her life at all, she didn't raise him, etc.) I'm dying to know if that doofy boy was the father of her kid. Maaaan. Hahaha.

3a. HOLY SHIT I DIDN'T REALIZE HOW EASY IT WAS TO FIGURE OUT: YES HE IS THE FATHER OF THAT KID.

1. I have had mint ice cream tonight.

2. Still in bliss after another wonderful weekend with BlueEyes. Finally introduced him to one of my oldest, most vocal and opinionated friends. Everything went swimmingly. Phew.

3. Waiting for a breakfast table at the diner yesterday morning, I suggested we share a table with another couple (no tables for two, but a table for four was available). They were agreeable, the management was happy to seat all four of us so quickly, and BlueEyes and I had a fun breakfast with complete strangers.
