So I cried this evening. [More:] Our church held a "Classical Music Night" this evening. They aren't particularly strict on the definition of classical music, though, and a father-daughter duet sang "Somewhere Out There" from the movie "An American Tail." It was hard not to cry during the song.

Not only did father and middle-school-aged daughter sing it beautifully, it was also evocative of their own story. You see, dad spent some time in jail and is trying to get his life back on track. I can only imagine the daughter listening to the song while missing her dad. By time they finished (they didn't quite make it through the last few words at the end), there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

(If the tune sounds familiar, it was also a pop hit sung by James Ingram and Linda Rondstadt.)

Here's to redemption and second chances.
Oh dang it. I forgot to point out that the link on the front page is the movie version of the song.

I'm a huge fan of redemption and second chances - don't we all need them?
