18 April 2010

Shall we Brunch? What was breakfast? Or rather what was the first meal you ate today? [More:]

Me:

Black coffee - Water - diluted orange juice - Salmon roe and chives on crackers atop sour cream - side of smoked trout on whole-wheat toast - an apple (Granny Smith).
I nuked the last of some chicken I thawed last weekend (since I need to clear the fridge for this week's food), had a bowl of cereal, an apple, and half a soda.

At least it's a change from yesterday's crackers and alcohol.

Blue tea. I should probably eat something, but we don't really have anything breakfasty in the house, so I may just wait until lunch.

Sourdough toast and coffee. Trying to keep it pretty bland and simple after a week+ of overindulgence for birthday.

Greek yogurt mixed with pineapple juice and organic metamucil. That has pretty much what I have been eating for the past two days. I can't wait until I can eat real food again!

Bacon-bourbon caramel corn. (The leftovers from a batch I made as a birthday gift for a friend. At his birthday bash last night, every dish contained bacon. I have a bacon hangover.)

I made buttermilk biscuits and Guy made coffee. (He came home from skiing without warning this week!)

A strange sort of quesadilla with a filling of roast beef, cheddar cheese and leftover Thai peanut sauce. Surprisingly yum! And a strawberry lassi.

double espresso with condensed milk
later twiggish cereal w/ skim milk
later english muffin w/ peanut butter & applesauce with walnuts and flax seeds and cinnamon

reflected that I am becoming my mother more quickly than I might have suspected I would.

Haven't really eaten yet. A couple of crackers. Some red wine. Guess it's my crackers & alcohol day!

I will try to report back if and when I actually do consume real food.

So far today, scrambled eggs with American cheese, a strawberry crumble Luna bar, and roasted pine nut hummus with pita chips. Tonight, I am having lemon garlic chicken and asparagus for dinner. I am really excited that my supermarket has started selling raw chicken breasts, both marinated and unmarinated, in single serve packages. Ah, the small joys of the single life.

Miko, I made baked potatoes yesterday! Yum!

I had linner at about 2:30, in the car, between errands. Grape-flavored seltzer water, half a nestle crunch bar, and a piece of lemon cake-bread. Another half-hour and it would have been Dunch. (Lupper?)

Scrambled eggs with cheese, the Sausage of Disappointment (hey, it claimed to be "hot" but it was decidedly not), wheat toast, sliced tomato, coffee. I almost squeezed some grapefruit, but did not.

And I while I was making breffus I got the London broil marinating for dinner. I think I'll make hash browns to go with it. I like hash browns.

"The Sausage of Disappointment" sounds like a not-very-euphemistic euphemism.

Five Hershey's kisses, a moment ago. I should probably eat something with food in it at some point.

I had leftover cherry pie, baked by a Dutch Amish kitchen, for breakfast. Not the healthiest breakfast I have ever eaten, but one of the most delicious.

Eggs and bacon on fresh Turkish bread with lashings of Worcestershire sauce (Lee & Perrins, natch) and a cup of obscenely strong tea, milk and sugar. It probably took weeks off my life, but I don't care!!

Dammit, now I want cherry pie...

I went to a potluck picnic: I brought arugula and kale pesto pasta salad and a quick radish pickle. I ate: 7-layer mex dip with chips, some kind of runny cheese on bread (not brie. better than brie), fruit, a black and white cookie, two hot dogs, some olivada and crackers, red wine, hansen's root beer.

Two scrambled eggs, with two pieces of French Toast, and three strips of bacon. BlueEyes got the meat lovers omelet. And coffee, lots of coffee. This has become "our" place on Sundays when I'm at his place. Great food, usually, but today there was a problem with BlueEyes' brother-in-laws breakfast. He eventually got it for free...such are the things that happen.

Leftover lo mein, cold, straight from the carton, with a plastic fork. And coffee. And I wasn't even hung over.

We went out to brunch. House-made chocolate croissant (a real one from scratch, with semisweet chocolate inside), oatmeal pancakes and house-made sausage links.

I made two Italian cream cakes to bring to potlucks this weekend, and for some reason neither was finished. CAKE FOR BREAKFAST. The metaphorical icing is that in a couple of hours the marathon runners are going to be streaming past my kitchen window.
