Italian, from chiaro clear, light + oscuro obscure, dark
1 : pictorial representation in terms of light and shade without regard to color
2 : the arrangement or treatment of light and dark parts in a pictorial work of art

I was SO SO SO MAD after I took these sunset pictures during our Big Freeze, because I hadn't realized I'd butt-set the camera to an absolutely horrendous resolution. There were some beautiful scenes, and I barely got two or three usable photos...
