Thanks, occhi -- CHOO! I mean occiBLU!

Yeah, this is the worst season for me in the SF Bay Area in the 10 years I've lived here. I'm guessing it has something to do with the unusually wet winter we just had.

Do you neti pot yet? Everyone I talk to swears by it. My allergies are more of the seasonal hay-fever-symptoms type - fatigue and sinus pressure with no sneezing or stuffiness - so I've never tried it.

Also, it seems like the whole state of Texas is covered by a fine, yellow pollen. It's sort of eerie.

Poor treepour. My husband is a fellow sufferer. The only thing that has brought him any sort of relief is a prescription for Flonase and daily doses of loratadine. I have heard good things about the neti pot as well, but I, gratefully, have never been much for nose cloggy stuff, so I haven't needed it.

I Neti-pot and it works, but it takes a few times and feels really weird.

Loratadine works, but also really, really blindingly hot showers. Seems to use up all the histamine in in my skin so I'm not SO itchy.

This thread made me sneeze, like watching someone yawn makes you yawn.

Oh yeah, Neti pot all the way. Might want to try grape seed extract (takes a couple weeks to kick in but can really help).

(I just sneezed too! Heh!)

I've been nursing the inkling of a cold for, oh, a couple weeks now. Everyone I know has gotten the horrible crud, but I have somehow managed to survive (knock on wood).

But last night I was sitting around at like9:30 and suddenly my eyes just began to water and water and water for no good reason. I didn't think I'd rubbed my eyes with anything weird on my hands, but man, it was bad. And I had a low-end facial pressure thing going on, too, so I just said fuck it and went to bed.

I don't do the Neti-pot thing as such, but rather take a more convenient (and unfortunately more expensive) approach.

There's this stuff called Simply Saline that's just pure, sterile saline solution, exactly the kind your sinuses need. No preservatives, just water and saline.

One great thing about it is that if the can is held upright, it mists your sinuses, whereas if it's held on its side, the steam is more Neti-pot like. So you can adjust for how much misting vs flushing you need.

Yes, it does help, a lot, and tonight I'm doing a bit better. Woke up a couple of times last night sneezing my head off and unable to breathe, but using the saline helped get it under control.

The thing is, though, it just flushes stuff out -- it doesn't necessarily inhibit your body's overactive immune reaction to what's already built-up in your system. But it certainly does help, and I'd be WAY more miserable without it.

So, this is a long way of saying "yea Neti-pots" but I also sure hope these damn flowers aren't in heat for much longer.
