25 March 2010

I met my mother today "Julie was an excentric, very intelligent, loved good quality ,she had a beautiful leather coat made for her, took months to pay for it. Same with shoes.I think she only had one pair at a time but they were of exceptional design and quality.
She had many "exotic" friends, was a vegetarian and very quick witted.A wicked sense of humour."[More:]

Julie was my mother. She died 34 years ago, but Thursday morning I got an email via Facebook from someone wanting to talk to her. Sadly I told her she was gone. The above is a snippet of my mother's life that I never knew, and would never have known without the internets.
Wow.

*hugs*

Oh, goshling. That glimpse isn't enough, of course, but in this world, we learn to be grateful for whatever blessings we get. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Your mother sounds like a fascinating person, and fun besides!

Take care, goshling.

That is amazing. I just recently found out I have two older siblings. I don't know who they are but it cool to know they are out there.

I wonder what happened to that coat.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words.

Amro: I was 4 when my mother died.

danf: Her friends on the commune kept most of her belongings (& mine too from what little I recall - I was especially miffed they kept my bike & wading pool), I expect some lucky hippy about her size got the coat.

I've received a further email from my mother's friend, and she's filled in some more information and a picture is emerging of who my mother was. After all this time I never expected to ever find this much information. In some ways knowing what she was like makes her not being here even harder, but I'm treasuring every little snippet I can get. She also mentioned a little about my father - she doesn't know who he was, but she does recall that sometime after I was born, he tried to form a relationship with my mother but she turned him down.

arse_hat: That's amazing! A friend of mine recently discovered she has 2 younger siblings. They also found each other on Facebook.

Duck cuteness. || Is this really true? Are some Capitol Hill staffers exempt from the HCR bill?
