21 March 2010

Three (or four or five, whatever) things you're enjoying lately. Could be movies/books/music/food/hobbies, etc. Totally free-form. Let's go!
Mine:

Two albums I just can't get enough of lately: Antipop Consortium's Arrhythmia and Stiff Little Fingers live album Hanx!

Science! At spring break I have A's in both of my classes and I feel like I'm actually getting this shit. So far, at least.

My alma mater not only getting their first NCAA men's tourney victory in sixty years, but making the sweet 16 and looking like they have a good shot at making the Elite 8.

Piper's first two albums (Billy Squier's first signed band and nothing like his solo crap)
Hyperion by Dan Simmons (a little heavy on the SF but a good story)
Brian Setzer's guitar instructional DVD (that guy has more licks up his sleeve than Clapton)
Our cat Sookie has crossed that boundary in trusting us totally
Actually craving bananas rather than sausage or potato chips

Watched It Might Get Loud last night & loved it. I need more U2 albums.
Yay Sookie!
We'll be able to start nibbling on our lettuce plants out back this week.
mrs chewie started making these sauteed (?) carrots that are super tasty & I could eat 'em like fries.
I continue to be addicted to chocolate.

Fool's Gold singing Surprise Hotel, live on KEXP! This song matches the insane seasonal change just beginning for us...capital-S Spring is just about here! The weather's here shot up twenty degrees in about two weeks, the snow is gone, and it's going to be 17°C/62°F here on Friday.

Picnics!

My decluttered room!

Watching _Blood and Sand_ and making humour in my mind about how health care reform would relate to gladiator activities;
Eating way too far into a 56oz bag of peanut M&Ms;
And yesterday I made a graveside visit to a friend that passed on in '96. I feel as if I have made some non-subjective and un-objectifiable growth in my life with this trip that I made yesterday. Another maturing of sorts.

And I am ready for the coming week. Rested, bored, and ready to go. I've been enjoying life lately. Compared to periods of mere existance in the past; it is great to be enjoying life again.

At this very moment I am enjoying a bowl of brown rice, millet, quinua and amaranth, with tamari and nutritional yeast! I can reassure you that I am not enjoying any patchouli though.

I'm enjoying this new season of Project Runway USA (7). I actually care again about the designers and what they are creating. Some really good work coming out.

I've almost forgotten the bore that was season 6!

The Weather. OMG I love spring in New York City. It's a shame that it's so fucking short. I will be a shut-in huddling over my air-con very soon.

1. iPhone. Didn't think I wanted one until I had one. Love that goddam thing.
2. tumblr. There is a lot to be said for really really simple.
3. Babylon 5, again. Bought the box set. Halfway into season 2, it's just so epic.
4. Corned beef hash. Best breakfast ever. I never knew.

Old video games. I've been playing some of the Playstation (1) games that I bought years and years ago but never got around to playing. Not on the Playstation though, I have been using the ePSXe emulator and some of the custom shaders people have made that can actually improve on the graphics in some cases. Also have been playing a lot of my schmups for PS1/Dreamcast/Saturn lately.

I never finished the Gamecube Zelda and I started to play it again on my Wii the other day. Bad weather, no work and an injured stomach muscle (and I thought back problems were irritating...) have meant lots and lots of game playing lately.

- Running. I'm up to eight mile runs on the weekends now, need to get up to a thirteen mile one in the next six weeks before the Pittsburgh (1/2) Marathon.

- Spring. I've never been so ready for good weather and it was f'ing beautiful all weekend.

- My neighborhood. My neighbors held a baby shower today for the two women who run the local coffee shop and pretty much the entire neighborhood turned out with presents and support. The fact that the women and men of the neighborhood, ranging in age from their 20s to their 70s, would actively support a same sex couple and their child makes me feel like humanity actually has a chance. These are good people.

The dog park. Olive loves the dog park, I love that Olive loves the dog park. And she sleeps sooo well afterward.

Zombies!!! board game. Just finished a 3.5-hour (!) game with friends tonight. It was the longest game of Zombies!!! I've ever played, but was super fun.

My fiance. He's adorable and I'm super in love.

I've been up for less than an hour, but so far I've been enjoying Caroline by Status Quo, The Now Show - a BBC podcast and most of all, my Senseo coffee machine

Daily Shoot. It's got me all energized.

I'm enjoying terrible novels. Paranormal romances! Paranormal mystery romances! Interchangeable paperbacks with the word Death in the title! They all rock! I go through them like candy and forget them like dreams.

Previous to sinking myself in the literary mud, though, in the good book category I reread Tim Powers' sort of trilogy, the Fault Lines series - Last Call, Expiration Date and Earthquake Weather - and they are amazingly wonderful.

Being alone. (I'm not exactly a fan of people in the first place, but I've been especially enjoying my house lately.)

1. Firefly. Got it as a gift, the whole series, and it's amazing how good it is. Makes Dollhouse look all the worse.

2. Longer days. Had dinner al fresco out on the front deck as Friday. Wine glass in hand, waving to people on bikes riding by. A collective joy in spring, in this town.

3. Relatively good health, a wife that I desire lo all these years and still makes me laugh, and living a hour away from both skiing and the beach.
