LOVE THAT.

Vinyl grooves always fascinated me growing up... the idea that those funny patterns could translate to any sound imaginable.

Records? What are those?

;-)

Very cool pics. When I lived in Michigan we went to Henry Ford Museum on a demonstration day and they actually recorded my voice on Edison's original phonograph machine.

What I love about records is that the sound is real (physical), not a representation built on a light image. What you hear with a record is really sound vibrations caused by a constantly changing physical variation in the shape of a material contacting a needle in one micro-moment after another - instead of a reconstruction based on an image that is more of an incomplete, dotted-line picture of a sample of a sound.

I love that back in WWII, they actually developed a form of cryptography that involved phonographs and turntables. It was called SIGSALY. Yet another reason that records are awesome! :)
