Music! I made an album! It is called Inchoatery and you are cordially invited to give it a listen!
Well, I'm impressed. The last song kinda lost me, but until then it was maybe the most 'real' post-break-up theme albums I've heard (but the ones that successful musicians do usually just remind me how out-of-real-life they are, y'know?)
And the 1970s-80s-commercial-radio-guy in me thought "if he'd do radio-friendly edits, a couple of these could be hit singles"... yeah, in '78 or '87...
"Get You Laid" reminds me of your "Femme Fatale" Walken impression at points.
Heh. It's sad but true. You should listen to the demo for that, it's far worse -- I did my best to repress any Walkenization in the album cut over a series of takes, but at the end of the day I just can't exorcise that guy.
HA! I was all "This kinda sounds like a modern-rock-half musical thing like what they did with hedwig in marrying Rock sentiment with Musical sentiment" and then I read "nchoatery also owes a cultural debt to, among however many other things, the rock opera Hedwig and the Angry Inch; as someone who grew up around but was never much into classic musicals, I found Stephen Trask’s marriage of musical theater tropes with straightforward balls-out rock arrangements really goddam exciting when I first encountered the film. Inchoatery isn’t Hedwig or anything quite like it, but there are flickers of homage in some of the harmonic decisions I found myself making over the month."
I'll also be blogging about various album-related stuff (process, etc) over on the music site, so if you're curious about the sausage-making, keep an eye on it. Here's the first salvo.
