The above photo is added to this thread purely because he's a firefighter (i.e. fire = hot) and not because he's a smokin' hot specimen of manhood. I did not want anyone to think I would post a picture of a smokin' hot firefighter just for gratuitous pleasure. Oh no.
My neighbor's flower shop and the bar next door went up in flames last year. No one was hurt and he rebuilt the shop two doors down and a deli is moving in this spring. I'm terrified of house fires, I had trouble sleeping for a week after this.
One of my favorite places, the main reason I moved to the neighborhood 10 years ago, DC's Eastern market burned a couple of years ago. This image makes me cry every time I see it:
Happily, the place was rebuilt, to historic preservation specifications, and with modern plumbing, HVAC, and lighting, and something we locals never expected but hoped for, with all of the original, long-time vendors.
(but this one works. It was pretty ridiculous that a bunch of 30 year olds stood around obsessing about charcoal snakes on the fourth of july this year)
This topic sent me to my Grand Canyon pictures which I've been too slack to sort and upload. So here's a couple:
The view from near the canyon's edge as I head down. I'm making for the Indian Garden which is that patch of green that's most of the way to the point. ≡ Click to see image ≡
I was taking the Bright Angel trail, which is the most popular trail and plenty dry and dusty. ≡ Click to see image ≡
There was a rest area about every mile and each of them had a thermometer that I snapped a picture of documenting the fact that the temp goes up around 5 degrees for every mile you descend. This means if I'd gone all the way to the bottom it would have been well over a 100 degrees (F)

Joanna Newsom. . .The small (open floor) venue was WAY oversold, to the point of it was impossible to be in there without being in constant physical contact with at least 3 other people. And VERY hot and stuffy. I had the Fire Marshal # on my cellphone and I was really struggling with ratting on them because it was just miserable and unsafe and did I say hot? I ended up not making the call.
On a break, Newsom went out a door behind the stage, and in the streetlight, she just STEAMED from every pore of her skin. . .
