First Callback Interview In Over A Year.... →[More:]

Just found out today I'm being asked back for a 2nd interview with this organization.

I'd be observing K and 1st graders in some of the worst schools in Boston to recommend them for inclusion in our fulltime mentoring program.

In the hopes that one day they will graduate from high school and be accepted into college.

The money's a joke - it's through Americorps, but there's a $2500 educational stipend as well as a living stipend included.

So, I may end up doing four months of social work in places like Roxbury, Dorchester and Matapan with little squirrely kids.

Thoughts?

Only a four-month committment? Hell yeah you should do it. Especially since you like kids- you'll love every one of those little beasts by the time your 4 months is up. :) Go for it!

It sounds hard. I mean how can you look at a 5 or 6 year old kid and NOT recommend them for inclusion in your program? Shouldn't every kid be included? It sounds very hard and very worthy. It will take you places you wouldn't otherwise go. It will probably make you feel very mad and very sad sometimes. But you'll be doing A Very Good And Very Important Thing. So you should do it, if you want to. If you don't want to then keep on walking

Do it! It sounds like a great program and a good springboard for other things.
It's always easier to find a job when you have a job, and since this one is only 4 months you aren't in danger of settling for low pay for a long time.
I hope you get it and take it, sounds awesome!

Getting some work that's for a limited amount of time sounds like the perfect antidote. Gets you back into the routine which is all so good for the psyche. And it's surely the first in a series of great things out there. Best of wishes.
