haha. I just had this madinsane concept of the "2010 Men's Olympic Figure Skating Competition, As Interpreted by LOLCATS"

would prolly go something like this:

Lysacek = I R SERIUS CAT, THIS R SERIUS BIDNESS (dude, what's up with all the brooding, introspective Late Romantic shit? You're wearing a spangly shirt ffs)

Plushenko = MONORAIL CAT (he only has one truly impressive move)

Takahashi = JAZZ HANDS! (zomgcute!! a tad young, but stylish, cuddly, and full of flair)

Weir = INVISIBLE BIKE! (holy... WTF?! -- that said, I greatly prefer his performance art to Lysacek's angst)

Yeah, I am really conflicted about Lysacek. The 14-year-old Victorian Romance addict in me is absolutely salivating over his performance-persona, but adult-me thinks it's really silly considering he's like, 25.

I bet off the ice he's sort of goofy. Also, according to Wikipedia his Olympic costumes were designed by Vera Wang.

muddgirl, what makes me giggle is how Lysacek went on the record in some interview all about how he "eschews sequins and prefers to wear modern streetwear" on the ice. Um, yea, ok I can totally see your photo on tomorrow's Sartorial blog, complete with those sparkly silver 3-D snakes or whatever the fuck that was stuck on your costume. Really?

(I don't actually dislike him, I think he really earned the medal, and he seems to be a class act IRL. He's just an easy target).

Jezebel just linked to this "retrospective", and #20 is LOL.

That was hilarious, BP.

lol @ this:

Ian: I bet they were really embarrassed when they both showed up wearing that.
Eva: Somewhere, there's a suspender-shaped hole in somebody's Burberry drapes.
Peter: Who cares about the plaid suspenders?? What's really weird is her skates seem to be growing directly out of her feet.
Ian: That's how she knew she should be a skater, Peter.

That NPR link is excellent. The Men's Figureskating costumes had me in stitches (Heh! get it, stitches), and the mugging and goofy programs were just weird. Lysacek is a great skater, but oh-so-emo.

I wish they'd identify the music, or maybe not; a Facebook friend posted: "a man who chooses to skate to "Papa, Can You Hear Me?" from 'Yentl' has probably already made a lot of Life Decisions."
