15 February 2010

I've been kinda complaining about the densely packed holiday/event season going on now: ValentineDay/Chinese-LunarNewYear/PresidentsDay-Lincoln'sRealBirthday/Carnival-MardiGras-FatTuesday/TED/WinterOlympics-NBAAllStarWeekend/MultipleMeChanBirthdays... But I fully endorse adding International Grover Appreciation Day to the mix because, well, I'm a fanboy for Grover (and Scalzi).
Yes!!!! Grover IS the greatest muppet ever!!

I've always thought Grover was the best muppet after Kermit. Mostly because Kermit was the original muppet, made of a tossed out coat and ping-pong balls. "It's Not Easy Being Green" makes me get something in my eyes. And I love the way he frowns. My husband tells me I squinch my mouth up the same way when I'm displeased with something.

I had a science teacher in high school that we nicknamed "Grover" behind his back. It wasn't out of spite, but because he got SO excited when teaching us new stuff, which was great, and his beard, when left to its own devices, went almost up to his eyes. He also had a similarly protruding lower lip. (Unrelatedly, he was also a really good bass player.) That's the guy I give credit to for my getting a science degree when I went to college.

All that said, I'm a fangirl of Scalzi, and won't argue with that guy after enjoying the Old Man's War series as much as I did.
