"Your love gives me such a thrill, but your love won't pay my bills. I want MONEY." My favorite version of this song, by The Flying Lizards, for Valentine's Day.
I had a C-45 cassette filled with this song over and over for driving to work.

Thinking back, I think that was the last 45 rpm record I ever bought. It had a killer picture sleeve.

Here's another version, from Thee Headcoatees.

The Flying Lizards version is great, but the Beatles version will always be my favorite, mainly because it may be Lennon's best vocal performance.

I think of the Flying Lizards as the Anti-Nouvelle Vague... and that is a good thing.

The version I like is by Barrett Strong but I can't find it online.

OMG that is the best description of the Flying Lizards ever. You're exactly right.

Also, Obscure Reference: Barrett Strong did the original, and wrote it as well. (You probably already know this and were being subtle.) It's my second favorite version, though jonmc makes a strong case for the Beatles' version, because that IS an awesome vocal that Lennon turned in.

That sounds almost like Shonen Knife or something. Excellent.

Haven't heard that in 20 years. Thanks!
