Recommend an SSH/SFTP? Pretend I know nothing. Because I do.

I do know nothing! [More:]

My website got hacked, I've been back and forth with my host. Fourteen people have logged into my acct in the past 2 days. So my host recommended changing my passwords, of course, and also turning off ftp access (among other things) and using ssh/sftp instead. How do I do it, what do I need to have? Thanks!
I use filezilla for sftp transfers to the website that I run, it's not too fancy but it works.

Hey, I have (and love) Filezilla. I thought it was just an ftp. I'll look into it. Thanks octo!

When you connect there is a drop down box to choose between plain ol FTP and SFTP. Go with that.

Done....thanks! I was using a 2005 version of Filezilla and it didn't have the option. I just updated and configged. Hopefully this will keep the bastards out. This was a part of the message from my host after this morning after I contacted them:

The countries that have logged into your user are:
3 Belgium
3 Netherlands
2 France
2 Turkey
2 Sweden
2 Singapore
2 Russian Federation
2 Portugal
1 Germany
1 United Kingdom
1 United States
1 Canada
1 unknown
1 Romania
1 Czech Republic

I'm the "1 United States". Everyone else had my login and password.

For windows, I really like WinSCP. For mac, I use cyberduck.

And really sorry to hear about this problem -- that totally sucks.

I, um, was NOT the "1 Canada", I can assure you. HONEST.

Unencrypted FTP should really never be used anywhere for any reason. It's almost criminal that service providers still support it.
