27 January 2010

Finished work for the day! I work remotely and my work queue gets uploaded every Thursday morning. It's now empty. Thus, I have an amazing 5 hours of my own time starting now! What should I do? I'm paralyzed here. (Cold sunny day in NYC)
Go to a museum. The Frick is great, if you've never been there, and plenty of time to get there, have a great look round and home again in five hours.

A museum could be a plan. Lucky I live close to a ton of them. Oh, and the MOMA has a Tim Burton exhibit right now. Hrm. Lunch and then I'll decide.

I think you should reenact one of those "big day in the big city" montages that were so ubiquitous in 1960s NYC-based comedies.

Example:
The World of Henry Orient

Go have a martini!

PS: If I lived in NYC I'd totally ditch work to go hang with you

Rub it in all of our faces? OH WAIT YOU ALREADY DID THAT

Near the UWS? (w60-w80ish) We could have a drink!

Also heading down to midtown west/hell's kitchen in an hour.

Well, I was virtuous and did some housecleaning and ate lunch.

The Whelk? I am in UES but can go anywhere as long as I'm home by 5.

Fancy a drink across the park?

Tell me where and when and I'll be there.

You can finish all your work at a job? I can't even imagine that, I have about two years of tasks in my queue right now.

yep, I get a certain number of articles to index in a week, and they are all current (i.e. I can't ask for more than I think I can reasonably do in a week) so once my queue is exhausted I have to wait until the person in charge uploads more. And I'm dealing with a government database here, so there is no flexibility in when they will upload them. Thursday AM is my time.

Lets say 3:10 ( so we're within spitting distance of cocktail hour) at my favorite pub, Malacky's on 72nd? http://maps.google.com/maps/place?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=p9s&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=malachy%27s+new+york&fb=1&gl=us&hq=malachy%27s&hnear=new+york&cid=16989440848201316185

Anyone who has a chance to hang out with gaspode and doesn't do it is a fool.

That was fun! It was like a speed date. Except. Not a date. And not that really speedy. Picking up your baby from daycare with beer on your breath? Classy.
posted by gaspode 27 January | 18:19
Not that really speedy? Oy, and I manipulate words for a living.

Ha. I am corruption.

Gaspode, I want your indexing job! Do you have an MLS? I do, but it seems useless for such jobs, oddly.
posted by Riverine 27 January | 23:39
riverine, I do not have an MLS, but I'm indexing biomedical articles, so my PhD is a little more handy.

It's a great, great job. If you can swing one like it, I fully recommend.

special-k if you were here, I'd totally make you come out for lunchtime martinis!!
