Ask MeCha: SHORT daily (or weekly podcasts)? [More:]Lately I've really gotten into listening to podcasts during my commute. But I find I prefer a bunch of short, 5-minute kind of things, because my commute length varies (depending on time of day, if I miss a train, etc) rather than hour-long programs.

Do you know any cool, 1-minute to 15-minute podcasts that (preferably) update every day? I'm pretty well covered in news and politics... would like to maybe find some arts/music type things.

Podcasts I currently listen to are things like: NPR Shuffle, the Media Matters Minute, the Writer's Almanac, Talkback w/ Wendy Austin (that page says it updates weekly, but it's actually daily Mon-Thurs), and Voice of America's news headlines.
In a rush to head to class, so I don't have time to build links, but you may like KEXP's Song of the Day and The Moth's Podcast (stories told live, "without notes").

Hey, those both look cool, esp. the Song of the Day. Sweet! Thanks, bud!

Do you like David Edelstein? I always enjoy his fairly short movie and TV reviews on Fresh Air. It looks like he has a podcast here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4473010

*waves from Chem class*

A couple of others I thought of on my drive in:
WNYC's Radio Lab has shorts, but I think they're closer to 20+ minutes. Still worth checking out.

There's also a show called The Dirtbag Diaries that does shorts ~ once a month. Their podcasts are a little on the hippie-drippy side, but for the most part they're good outdoorsy stories.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, but I'm kind of the opposite of you - I'll go 4-5 hours straight, so I prefer longer ones.

How about one out of two criteria?

Nate Dimeo's Memory Palace is short, about 5 minutes long, however he only does a new one about once a month. But I love them. Each one is a little gem. There's a backlog of about a dozen of them.
