Hmmmmm. Interesting. I wouldn't have read the song that way.

How is it very 1979? Does it remind you of a particular artist or is it just the way it feels?

Just the way it feels - I listened to a lot of music in those days in small clubs - bands who (mostly) never made it but just liked to have fun - and they had that kind of unpolished sound to them.

Neat.

But in this case, I suspect that that lo-fi feel is not so much the free and spontaneous and fun sound you remember so much as a conscious artistic choice. An unpolished polish, if you will.
