Lyrics fun? I'm a little bored today. Let's try to have some fun...these are a little all over the place, so hopefully there's something for everyone![More:]
#1 - Let's drink to the uncounted heads
#2 - I'd buy me a used car lot and I wouldn't sell any of 'em, I'd just drive a different car every day dependin' on how I feel.
#3 - You can rely on the old man's money
#4 - I felt a little like a dying clown, With a streak of Rin Tin Tin
#5 - In South Carolina, there's many tall pines
#6 - I'm begging of you, please don't take my man
#7 - Oh no, not me, I never lost control
#8 - Well I feel so broke up, I wanna go home.
#9 - The only time I feel alright is by your side
#10 - I picked a stick up off the ground and knocked that fair girl down.
3. Rich Girl by Hall and Oates

I know more but I'll give someone else a chance.

Wow - I'm normally really good at these, but I can only recognize two (#8 is Sloop John B and #9 is the Kinks' "All of the Day").

OK - I just turned down the Van Halen and suddenly I got #3 - Hall & oates "Rich Girl".

Lori got #3 (as did Slack)

Slack is correct on numbers 8 & 9 as well.

Yeah, as I say, some of these are all over the place. I'll be shocked if anyone gets #10...it's a song that likely isn't too well known, but amazes me for a couple of reasons. Reasons I'll explain later :-)

5. Hickory Wind, Gram Parsons
6. Joline, Dolly Parton
8. Sloop John B, Kingston Trio
9. All Day and All of the Night, The Kinks

Sorry, I never guess these right so I got too excited and over-answered.

That's funny danf! And, you are right on all of yours!

Everyone has gotten the ones that I know!

I'd have said Sloop by the Beach Boys since I didn't know The Kingston Trio did that old folk song (which I'd learned in summer camp). And I never get these at all. I at least recognize #9 is correct, so that's something.

You know, based on that username, O.R., I'd expect you to get the REALLY weird ones :-)

Now I have Pet Sounds stuck in my head.

That doesn't sound so bad!

#1 Rolling Stones - Salt of the Earth
#4 The Who - Who are You

Octothorpe is right on those two, so, an update:

#1 - Let's drink to the uncounted heads
#2 - I'd buy me a used car lot and I wouldn't sell any of 'em, I'd just drive a different car every day dependin' on how I feel.

#10 - I picked a stick up off the ground and knocked that fair girl down.

I'll give it a bit more time before I post more lines, or hints...#7, I think, isn't too obscure, and I'm thinking someone around here might get #2 too. As I mentioned, #10 is a little out there.

#10 is 'Knoxville Girl,' a murder ballad. Louvin Brothers, Nick Cave, probably a million other versions.

I'm so glad someone got it! I forgot that Nick covered it too. I'm still amazed that record was released in the fifties.

#2 Tom Waits -- Christmas Card From a Hooker in Minneapolis ?

My name is an obscure reference, not my area of expertise. Danger is my middle name.

#7 -- Bowie, The Man Who Sold The World

(oops. I'm on my wife's account! This is BOP)
posted by elizard 12 January | 13:54
chrismear has #2, indeed.

A friend and I were talking about that song the other day, and I was saying that it's one song where I can't decide if I like the original, or the cover better. Neko Case does a great version, with some lovely organ accompaniment.

So, that leave's #7.

A hint - This song was rather famously covered in one of MTV's Unplugged performances.

I really should learn to preview more efficiently.

BOP has it. Wow, it's a rare day when they all get guessed. SWEET.

Also, obscure Danger reference....has a real nice ring to it.

Thanks for making the quotes old-fogie friendly this time. I don't do so well with anything after ~1981.
