07 January 2010

The woman mentioned in this thread got fired today (for something unrelated). What goes around comes around, lady.
Karma: whether fast-acting or time-release, it's good for what ails ya.

I'll drink to that.

Be sure to take a moment or two to savor that small spark of happy warmth that kindles deep inside when someone you detest really get theirs.

Yes, it's good when the universe redresses the balance a little.

That woman may well have been unpleasant, but you people are celebrating and hooraying that someone living in the most expensive city in the country has lost her job in a shitty economy that currently provides few employment opportunities for anyone, let alone a middle-aged retail worker.

That's gross.

dersins, you have a point that there's a downside for someone here, and it'd be kind of us to remember that. Let's try to keep the criticism of that from getting hurtfully personal, though - I'm sure people commenting aren't setting out to be provocatively gross and mean, just recognizing that sometimes an outcome that is negative for one person can feel just for others.

No love for the "don't rain on folks parade" line here, Dersins. A lot of us got laid off for doing nothing but showing up to work and being expendable this last year.

Maybe Crazy Manager Lady can use this "time away" to examine what's truly in her best interests, the way so many others of us have.

Wow, I'd forgotten that despite the faux-fuzzy bunny exterior that the folks here are secretly just as defensive and vicious as at the blue and gray place.

dersins, by speaking up as I did, what I'm hoping to do is to be sure we're observing the "don't slag off on other users" principle of Metachat. It's definitely okay to comment on other ways to view the event from the post, but we hope to discourage components of those comments that directly and openly target other users for negative attention. Feel free to email me if you would like to discuss more.

...folks here are secretly just as defensive and vicious as at the blue and gray place.

And sometimes just as sanctimonious, too!

Order arms, karmy brats. Stick a feather up your ass while you're at it. Quills up, tickle down!

I remember remarking to my mother when I was a teenager, "There has to be an afterlife because no-one ever gets what they deserve--good or bad--in this one."

It's funny how (or if) it-comes-around-goes-around works. When you're having a hard time catching a break (like I have been), it seems you only notice people who don't appear to deserve it, getting good things. Then you see someone who was unpleasant (or lazy or whatever) take a hit, and suddenly, all you can do is wonder if you are your own worst enemy.

Hard times make everybody more anxious. Hopefully they make us a little more human, too, but only if we don't get truly desperate.

Apparently the lady in question was allegedly involved with stealing from the company for years (a couple of other long-term employees got canned, too). So I guess she had a hand in her own karma, regardless.

(And if you don't want people to feel this way about you (i.e., "Ha, ha."), don't be an ass/bitch in the first place.)
