RIP Arnold Stang. Arnold who? [More:]
If you've seen any movie or TV show from the 1950s in which there was a bespectacled, nerdy guy, the chances are that he was played by Arnold Stang. But his biggest claim to fame was that he voiced the coolest cat on TV.

I loved that show when I was a kid, but in England it was called 'Boss Cat' because of a cat food sold in Britain called 'Top Cat'.
Top Cat, that's who!

(Reading his IMDB page, I am amazed by how much work that guy got. Guesting on many series, voiceovers, bit parts in movies, etc. He got a lot of work.

I mefi'd Arnold yesterday; his scene with Marvin Kaplan and Jonathan Winters in "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" was my favorite part of that classic movie. And he overcame the type-casting of his nerdy looks doing voices in cartoons: "Cousin Hoiman" in Herman & Katnip was one tough character and "Top Cat" was channeling Phil "Bilko" Silvers. Classic.

I'm with oneswellfoop - that gas station scene in "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" is one of my faves. He took a lot of small bits and made them much bigger (and funnier).

I seem to be the only one who remembers his Chunky candy ads. I can't find one on youtube, though.
