Gaga Palmer Madonna [SLAFP][More:]
Amanda Palmer held a webcast (at partyontheinternet.com) which seemed -- I only caught bits and pieces -- to be her getting drunk on wine while singing and tweeting/livechatting about topics, particularly Lady Gaga and whether her music/performance/persona is art per se art. Palmer promised to put together a blog post responding to all of this, but in the end, decided to write a ukelele ditty and put that on YouTube.
There's so much snark out there. And it feels, to me, like there is becoming an environment where criticism and comment become substitutes for actually DOING something. Somebody can put their heart into something, or create something, and so often you just get people swooping in with snide little comments, or pointing out that it really would have been cooler if only they would have done this or that. There is so much criticism.

But snarky criticism and commentary leave me so cold lately. Even when clever, it is SO far away from actually DOING something. From actually saying anything. I found that little video both inspirational and frustrating. Inspirational because I am always impressed with people that just DO. With people that don't let perfect skill (or cleverness, or irony, or whatever) be the enemy of just doing something and getting it out there. Just playfully creating, and saying a little something at the same time. Frustrating because I'm not more like that.

Anyway...no idea where all that came from. Sorry 'bout that. Thanks for the post. I needed it.

(now...where did I put those meds?)

I think it's great that AFP responds pretty much daily to her audience and that it often feels like she's part of a dialogue rather than a monologue.

Lady Gaga also does this but is at an entirely different level of fame/celebrity but it's nice that these people are actually listening and participating with their fans.

This is an aspect that Nashville/country artists have been doing for decades so it's nice to see it bleed over into other areas. (Country artists obviously haven't been doing internet stuff for decades...I just mean that those artists have done meet and greets for decades. LOL.)

Somehow I've never heard of Amanda Palmer. Thanks for the link.
