13 December 2009

Tis the season. I'm spending today researching charities. [More:]

I've decided, despite having been out of work for over a year, that I don't want anything this Christmas. My mother asked me what I wanted via e-mail, and I plan to get back to her today. I'm looking into various charities. I'm also planning to donate on behalf of my various family members to appropriate charities.

I'm donating to NJ Equality on behalf of my brother and his boyfriend. Their picture was in the local paper last week, attending the rally in Trenton!

So, if you're feeling generous, please consider donating to the cause, and help legalize marriage equality in New Jersey. The legislation is under consideration right now, so hopefully we can start off the new year with some positive news.

And please remember the less fortunate. Sometimes it's hard among the commercial messages this time of the year. But please remember the reason for the season.
Look at how cute your brother is!

Riding Your Coat-Tails Dept. - here's another great cause to donate to if you all are looking:

Reminds me, time to cut a cheque to our local women's and family shelter, and one to the cat shelter on the coast where one of my current fluffmonsters came from (already have the local humane society on a monthly plan).

But whatever you give, Give Well.

But please remember the reason for the season.

Yes, and all 23½ degrees of axial tilt are smacking me in the kisser as we speak. Today's high: -30°C (-22°F); last night's low was -36°C (-31°F) with wind chills in the minus-forties. I think we're in Roget's as a synonym for "godforsaken."

For the past few years things have been too tight for me to donate more than a few bucks. This year I'm happy to contribute to my former summer camp (a Quaker camp that does a world of social good, and which has seen its scholarship fund drop drastically this year - which has a serious impact for some specific poor rural and inner-city Philly kids who are getting a lot out of being part of the camp family), among other things.
