My favourite PJs. My favourite PJs are purple, and have pictures of Winnie the Pooh on them. [More:]Actually, I only have the bottoms now, the top wore out many years ago. I got the PJs when I was about 13 or 14, and in a crazy Winnie the Pooh phase. I used to go into the store and stare at them longingly, trying to figure out a way to save up my pocket money to buy them. They were $70 or so, and I can remember trying to justify them to my parents: "The top could be worn as a T-Shirt, you see, so it would be like getting PJs and clothing in one! So it works out at great value for money!"

I wanted those PJs.

In the end, my Dad bought them for me as a present, and I can remember being so delighted, because they were so clearly ridiculously expensive and impractical that there was no way that I should have them.

I still wear them now, and I think of Dad - who died about a year or less later - when I wear them, and I think about how sweet it was for him to buy them for me, and how they are the most precious item of clothing I own.
Aw, that's a really sweet story JS.

The closest I can come to my own story is that I still have the t-shirt I was wearing when both my girls were born. It has a pair of holes on the back, where our door handle caught me as I rushed out the door on my way to meeting Sophie for the first time! When Evelyn was coming along, it seemed like JUST the right shirt to wear.

It's a beat up old Eddue Bauer v-neck, but it's really a mess. No way I'm getting rid of it though!

That is a great story, jonathanstrange. I was just thinking about how I tend to get attached to insignificant objects because of what they represent to me. I'm not at all a pack rat but I know it makes my husband a little bit crazy when I refuse to get rid of something because it means something to me or reminds me of a person or a time in my life. For example: a glass measuring cup. The red lines are long gone and it's scratched and cloudy but I have to keep it because it's been with me since my first apartment, and it's moved with me at least a dozen times, surviving the big purge that happens every time I change residences. We have other measuring cups but I still have to hang on to this one.

As for PJ's, I'm wearing my favorite ones now. They have little white & blue snowmen on them and tiny green pine trees and signs pointing to the North Pole.

I've used this line of reasoning before...

My favourite thing to wear to bed is George's old OSU Buckeyes shirt which dates from the 70s. It's the perfect length and weight for a winter nightshirt and, along with his old hat, is the most precious piece of clothing I own.

I do, in fact, wear the top of my Homer Simpson PJs as a shirt.

Usually grey old school Army PT sweats and a T-shirt for PJs, or if I'm dressing for bed I bought three nice pairs of PJs when Monkey Wards was going out of business. A green plaid, a herringbone, and a grey plaid. Topped off with a sock hat or watch cover. Tengo sueno.

Awww, I like that story. It's well into afternoon, and I am still in my plaid flannel nightie, feeling cozy.
