Happy Chanukah to you, too. Light the Virtual Menorah! (This one looks less cool but contains recorded singing of the blessings for each night).

I have a fondness for Hanukkah (my version of spelling), but I always feel a little odd about the way its proximity to Christmas means that it gets way more play than it's really got in the Jewish liturgical calendar. Most non-Jewish people know something or other about Hanukkah, but a lot of people don't have much of a clue about Passover, Purim, or Rosh Hashanah, just because they don't go head to head with the biggest holiday season in the Christian cultural and religious calendars. NOt that I'm complaining, it's good for everyone to remember "oh yeah, there are other cultural systems going in around me," but I wish the awareness of Jewish holidays was better throughout the rest of the year too. Growing up in NJ that awareness was more pervasive - where I live now, there's less literacy about non-Christian and other non-American-mainstream celebrations.

A silly thing you do || Parents - how old was your kid when you first gave them crayons?
