This is a gushing Holiday Card Exchange Thread [More:]
I just got my first MeChat holiday card! From Govtdrone! It has dancing Lobsters AND a recipe, so it's charming AND helpful. I just out my overseas cards today, hope they get there in time ....
I haven't sent mine yet, but I got a very sweet one yesterday, mentioned here.

As I saw this thread my cards are coming out of the printer. Envelopes are addressed, stamps are bought, cards out tonight.
posted by Slack-a-gogo 10 December | 16:53
I wish I could have sent more cards, but the postage on all the cards I had to send this year came to £27, so that's me done for this year.

I've got one from the exchange (thanks, Janet!), and have spent my evening making icicles out of glitter glue on the ones I have yet to send. They may be late, bunnies!

Jan, we got your card today, and feel honoured to have gotten it! Where do you find all these perfect bunnies?!?

Where do you find all these perfect bunnies?!?

My cards were designed and made by magic hamsters.
posted by essexjan 10 December | 19:14
Regular Hamsters , of course, are too dull-witted to appreciate such fine detail and texture.

I got my first cards today! Thank you govtdrone and chrismear!

Like I said in another thread, I am expecting to receive my cards tomorrow and get them out on Saturday. I really hope the overseas bunnies (and, um, my family) get them before 2010.

One year I got mdonley's Christmas card for Easter.

Regular ham(p)sters are too busy dancing to attend to such mundanities.

Holy shit I just got Chrismear's card! Weeeee! Oh I get so fucking giddy when a letter is marked PAR AVION, and he thanked me for the radio stuff and goshers I'm glowering.

THANKS CHRIS! I HOPE YOU GET MINE BEFORE IT'S ALL OVER!

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I sent mine off today! I was so surprised at the post office to find out that sending 3 cards to other countries cost me just $2.71. Total, for all 3. They are cute cards but there are no bunnies or recipes or glitter. They're just .. cards.

(suddenly feeling inadequate)

Lobsters? Those are crawfish! Yummy, yummy crawfish!

But... but...

THEY'RE FROM A KANGAROO! How awesome is that?

I didn't even sign up for the exchange, because I knew I'd flake. You, who sent! cards! for realsies!, need never feel inadequate.

Oh, btw, you people will have to explain why you have a holiday card with a baby you don't know on it. Because y'all are getting the family/friends ones. With the baby. That (most of) you don't know.
posted by gaspode 11 December | 23:52
Govtdrone, I'm still getting my British Bf used to cornbread, I'll tell him it's lobster.
posted by The Whelk 12 December | 00:20
I'm addressing mine RIGHT NOW and hope everyone gets them in time (still haven't gotten any of the Mister's presents yet).

Hey hey! Glad this thread got going (and sidebarred, thanks to BP I'm sure). Yesterday and today were bonanza card days at our house. THANKS all! We got great laughs from The Whelk, a lovely msg from chrismear, a wicked funny card from elizard and BOP,a festive garage from BP, lovely sparkles from brujita and LoriFLA, and one gorgeous happy kid from Kangaroo. I can't say how cheerful it is to come home to find these cards!

I have been a little slow getting mine out, but I just spent my evening sequestered at the table with stencils, sharpies, and glitter and have been having a blast making custom cards for my list. They're homely - the phrase "church bazaar" comes to mind - but I really appreciate the chance to get my craft on. Hope they are enjoyed!

p.s., thanks TPS for making arrangements. This is so lovely!

The last of mine got sent today! So I hope they reach you before the new year, at least. Time caught up on me, and I was later than I wanted in getting off my arse and writing the demmed things!

I've gotten two so far though, wheee!

Ooh! Just opened my first batch of cards from the bunnies. How cool is this?

They are everything from funny to cute to really pretty. Also, chrismear has extraordinarily cool handwriting.

MOAR CARDS!

Jonathanstrange sent a touching and oh so sparkly card all the way from Australia!

I got to see Gaspole's kid, or someone's kid, on a slick shiny card.

And BoringPostcards sent me an actual factual Boring Postcard! With the name and everything. How did you know what Christmas in NJ looked like BP?

Lots of the Metchaters have fine handwriting. I wonder if there is a correlation.

Finally got ours out! Whew.

Yay! Cards! From bunnies! Thank you, jonathanstrange, essexjan, gaspode, Slack-a-gogo and Sil! These last few days I have been so excited when the postman comes a-knocking!

Not I. It's probably why you're not sure it was my kid.
posted by gaspode 18 December | 16:10
Jessamyn's ASKME plate! She had an extra stamp.

Seprose's lovely *tiny* card with lovely *tiny* writing!

Wheeeee!

FUBAR is fucked up beyond all recognition. Nu, Jessamyn?

This has been so much fun! Seems like we've gotten at least one card most days, and sometimes more! They're all up in our hang-out room where I can look at them and grin. Thanks, everyone, and a big thanks to TPS for setting it up.

From Alaska comes a charming card from Rhaspsodie and another MetaChat Radio shout out and form peachefuzz and -t, a beautiful Meta-injokey card. It has a plate of beans.

I've gotten a bunch of cards and it's been so fun! Every day there's another one in the mailbox. We have these glass shelves in our front hall where we put all the cards, and I have a little section just for my Metachat friends.

Yes, a big thanks to The Pink Superhero for organizing this .. hope we can do it again next year!

This is so much fun. I've gotten more cards this year than I think I ever have, due to this fun exchange. They're beautiful, too. Seeing all the cards has made me think about what a real joy and treasure Christmas cards were when they were first becoming really popular, printed with lithography in the 1870s. It made me imagine how special these bright, vivid illustrations must have seemed to people. They really are a gift in themselves, sparkly bright and beautiful little pieces of art work. Thank you all!

We had a great time sending cards, and receiving cards, and generally being geeky with everyone. Thanks again TPS!
