Heh...rollick, I'm afraid I haven't stayed current with all the versions. I barely understood the difference between XP Home and Professional!

I would go with either Pro or Ultimate simply for the XP compatibility mode.

What version of Vista does your current machine have? I'd go with the closest Windows 7 equivalent. I assume most people are getting the home premium version. I haven't heard any good reason to go with the more expensive options. Are there really many XP programs that don't run on Vista/Windows 7?

i went with home premium and a 1 tera hard drive (now my music folder will all fit one drive lol)

now i just have to figure out how to hook up a sata connection and do the install. i'm at a point where my data is all backed up, so i'll make the switch either tomorrow or on the weekend .

Yep, including most of the Microsoft programming languages. And beware, if you get W7 for the Virtual XP machine, you must have BOTH the W7 Pro version AND a CPU that supports hardware virtualization that can be enabled in the BIOS of your machine.
