09 December 2009

This afternoon: Mostly sunny with scattered showers. Breezy with highs in the lower 50s. Southwest winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent. Someone hold me. :(
Mostly sunny with scattered showers.

Wait...what? No, you hold me.

lol *holds special-k*
That actually happens quite a bit in the spring 'round here. It'll be sunny but with bursts of heavy rain. The rain glistens in the sun and you turn around and there's a rainbow above your head.

We just had two nights of below freezing temps causing the Avocado farmers to freak out. Anything below 35-40F is rare here, even in the depths of winter, which is why they feel free to do local agriculture year round (however they do it). But it should warm up a bit tonight, ahead of another Pacific Storm. (Considering what the last storm did AFTER it passed through here, I feel like I should apologize, but, dammit, we wanted more rain than we got!) At least I solved the problem with raining indoors.

Balmy highs in the low 10s, winds alternating between 20 mph N and 20 mph S. Lows below the 0. Fahrenheit.
I like cold weather; but the zero give or take 10 degrees for four days in a row is beyond cold. Not a lot of sun either.
Usually a cold weather freak, I've been out with a pseudo-bronchial hack for a few days. I'm glad it is fading.

90 km/h wind gusts. I've got three garbage cans that have blown into my driveway. I'm just happy it wasn't recycling day.

I just rode my bike home over the Manhattan bridge and I was wearing a short sleeved shirt and no coat.

Been cold here in the PNW. Maybe not by Fargo standards but several days in a row now where it hasn't even reached freezing for the high with lows in the mid-teens (~ -9C).

Yeah... I'm now very jealous of you all. We've got lake effect snow warnings in place until tomorrow, flood warnings near the lake, high wind warnings, and they're saying at least five inches in the downtown area (where I live, and where my 8 am computer science final will be), which always seems to mean "two feet or more, suckers!"

I got out of a final at about seven tonight, and was nearly knocked off my feet from the wind while walking home from the subway. (by which I mean I was knocked off my feet, but there was a conveniently placed building which caught my fall before it began). I am not a delicate little flower by any means, so if my fat ass is getting knocked over you know it's bad.

We got the following actual unretouched broadcast email today:

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for our area until 2:45 p.m. today, warning that small streams in the area were still rising and a few were out of their banks. In addition, R. County alert system has listed several roads that are closed in the area due to high water.

The following is a list of road closures as of 10:45 a.m.

1. High Water Lane
2. ...

It is to LOL.

The north of the border part of the PNW has been the same - not getting above freezing for over a week now. Usually sunny tho', so that's nice.

They're promising snow at the weekend, but they've lied before.

Wacked. Left the house this morning to very wet sleet. As I drove south it intensified into heavy, whiteout snow. Then before I got into Boston area it changed back to very cold rain. Then it warmed up to about 45 and stopped raining. All the snow and slush melted and washed away. It's now starry-clear and about 40. Apparently while I was away at work, 8" of snow fell, and immediately melted.
