MetaChat is an informal place for MeFites to touch base and post, discuss and
chatter about topics that may not belong on MetaFilter. Questions? Check the FAQ. Please note: This is important.

WORLDS COLLIDING, JERRY! So, my husband finally joined mefi. Don't tell him about mecha, k?
The big question is how obvious do you want it to be that he's your husband? I know MeFi couples who are pretty circumspect about their relationship and others who won't stop talking about it.
My wife is on Mefi and reads it daily but seldom comments. We usually end up talking about stuff we both read on Metafilter, she's a big fan of the relationship questions.
She lurks here occasionally, the last time she did, she commented, "They're always talking about food on MetaChat".
My wife will probably make it as far as metachat in a month or two. We met online in 1990 so it somehow feels she's around even when she's not. I'm not sure this is such a bad thing even though it makes me less likely to post certain things. Or even to clearly characterize what those things might be.
my husband, who was online before most people were online, has no time for Metafilter, although he is always happy to snort or roll his eyes when I read him comments.
jessamyn, I have no problem with anyone knowing that he's my husband and I don't want to be one of those people that constantly references their SO on mefi (hard to say yet if he'll turn out to be one of those). I don't know where I'm coming from quite yet - I've basically introduced him to social media, and now he's pretty much everywhere online that I am. Although it's not as though he's purposely encroaching on my space, it feels a bit weird in a way I can't quite explain.
