03 December 2009

Something One Hit Wonderful on MetaRadio coming up at 1 AM ET, 10 PM Pacific, 5 PM in Sydney, 8 AM Athens, 6 AM London. (arse_hat is playing other stuff 'til then)
[More:](at least it better be other stuff - I was gonna include Martha & the Muffins but he got to it first)
if you're already listening, you'll probably have to reload the page/restart your player for the DJ change (I know I have to)

I'm here.

and I, and Sky. But she's asleep under the table.

I have a cat sleeping with his face pressed to the heat vent. The heat came on tonight so I can't keep thinking it's just fall. I hate that.

I love this song! I have a dog, arsey has a cat, and Maria has a camel!
posted by taz 03 December | 01:17
I have three cats but they are all sleeping. I am alone in the night except for the radio people.

tonight's wonders... part one...
Kyu Sakamoto - Sukiyaki
(yes, he had a bunch of hits in Japan, but considering this was the only song sung entirely in Japanese to make the US Top 40, the whole country is kind of a One Hit Wonder, right?)
Dream Academy - Life in a Northern Town
Sly Fox - Let's Go All the Way
Maria Muldaur - Midnight at the Oasis
(another one of the artists with a long, successful career, but who only hit the pop charts once... not all One Hit Wonders end up working at McDonalds five years later)
Lou Bega - Mambo #5

In case you haven't guessed, this music is programmed by shuffle, so don't expect smooth or logical segues...

...more wonders...
Pacific Gas & Electric - Are You Ready
(a wonderfully ironic song for me since I live 6 miles due east of the other PG&E's Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant and they periodically send me Emergency Preparedness & Evacuation brochures... and none of them are titled "Are You Ready?")
The Verve Pipe - The Freshman
Tin Tin - Toast and Marmalade for Tea
Snow - Informer
(okay, that almost-failed segue was intentional, because Snowy was the name of Tin Tin's dog... sadly, The Thompson Twins had more than one hit...)

"Breakfast At Tiffany's" Always wonder where they came up with that name for a movie. Who has had breakfast at a jewellery store?
posted by arse_hat 03 December | 01:51
Did you see the film? She would stand gazing into the Tiffany's display window while eating her automat(?) coffee and breakfast roll. As I remember.
posted by taz 03 December | 01:53
Crap, it's been about 35 years since I last saw it. Need to seek it out again.

internet killed the video star.
posted by arse_hat 03 December | 01:58
Martin Page - In the House of Stone and Light
The Ides of March - Vehicle
Deep Blue Something - Breakfast at Tiffany's
Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry Be Happy
Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star

I WONDER what he'll play next?
posted by oneswellfoop 03 December | 01:59
heh.
posted by taz 03 December | 01:59
Robbie Williams (UK star, US no-hit wonder) has a new album titled "Reality Killed the Video Star"...
posted by oneswellfoop 03 December | 02:01
Oh, Natalie! Why only a one-hit wonder, I wonder?
posted by taz 03 December | 02:01
and deee-lite! aw!
posted by taz 03 December | 02:10
Remember, One Hit Wonder Bread builds strong bodies ONE way...

Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
(one hit wonder in the US, had a half-dozen hits in her native Australia which I misread and didn't realize were also popular in the UK; by my own rules she shouldn't be here, but it was nice to hear, right?)
M - Pop Music
Deee-Lite - Groove Is in the Heart
me-technical difficulty (again?)
Danny Wilson - Mary's Prayer
posted by oneswellfoop 03 December | 02:13
me-technical difficulty

That's been a hit more than one time.
posted by arse_hat 03 December | 02:14
Technical Difficulty, by the 404 Boys! Everybody knows that one.

(yes - very nice to hear Natalie!)
posted by taz 03 December | 02:22
awwwwww, yeah, How Bizarre!
posted by taz 03 December | 02:23
Alannah Miles - Black Velvet
Mountain - Mississippi Queen
OMC - How Bizarre
(not to be confused with '80s multi-hit band OMD - Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, OMC stands for Otara Millionaires Club, which is supposed to be ironic if you've ever visited Otara)
Pete Wingfield - Eighteen With a Bullet
(to me, the final proof that the Billboard charts are tampered with came when this song hit #18, with a bullet. It peaked at #15.)
Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy
Shaun Colvin - Sunny Came Home
(okay, this was one of several minor hits she had in the UK, but the only one to hit in the US... Top 10... so sue me outside the US court system...)

Sex & Candy for breakfast!
posted by taz 03 December | 02:46
John Fred & his Playboy Band - Judy in Disguise
Murray Head - One Night in Bangkok
Marcy Playground - Sex and Candy
Daniel Boone - Beautiful Sunday
Crash Test Dummies - Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm
Michael Penn - No Myth
Los Bravos - Black Is Black

and fade to black...

Hey, it's been WONDERful...
posted by oneswellfoop 03 December | 02:58
Yay, and thanks! (also, my husband's begin to look at me funny... The Cheese! The Cheese! It is ever so CHEESY!)
posted by taz 03 December | 03:00
Crash Test Dummies had 5 or 6 top tens in Canada (depending on the source) but "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" never made it.

and thanks
posted by arse_hat 03 December | 03:00
oh, Canada...
posted by oneswellfoop 03 December | 03:02
Hey Superman's Song was cool!
posted by arse_hat 03 December | 03:08
It's so good to see Radio back again, even if I haven't yet been able to listen to any of it. I also would like to thank oneswellfoop for including a few time zones.

I think I might even have seen dodgygeezer posting about doing a set. This is rather exciting.

On preview, Canada has to win some sports event soon so I can hear the real version, because every time I see "oh, Canada" I hear it in my head like Laurie Anderson.
