Free Compu-help? My HP laptop no longer boots! →[More:]

Here's the problem. Out of nowhere two nights ago my laptop froze up and wouldn't acknowledge mouse movement. I shut it down, and left it alone for a moment. Then rebooted, but now the only thing that happens is the power display is on, but I don't get any Windows acknowledgment.

No happy Welcome Eno chirp, no nothing. Just an "on" computer. Something inside sounds like it's spinning, which I assume is the HD, but nothing happens.

Little help here, compu-kids?

Could the screen be dead? Try connecting to an external monitor?

Try booting a linux live disk like Ubuntu, and check to see if you can see the HD.

Also, can you enter the BIOS setup screen? If you can't even get that far, it might be bad.

I can't enter anything after power on. Nothing seems to be registering in the computer. I don't even get the "Windows is starting up...." screen. No logo, nada. Just the lights on, but no one's home.

Reseat battery, memory, HD, anything else you can get to (if you're comfortable with hardware...).

Physically pull the battery, then leave it out for a minute or two?
