18 November 2009

My grandma died the day before yesterday which made me so thankful that we made it over to New Zealand back in August, and that my daughter got to meet one of her great-grandmas (even though she won't remember it).[More:] Nana loved meeting Maddie, and of course I got to see her one more time.
Awwww.... hugs.....

I lost my Grandma last summer; she had just turned 90. We saw her a week or two before she passed. She knew she was dying, and before we left to drive back home to Texas from New York, she gave me the tightest hug EVAR.

Oh .. I'm so sorry for your loss.

That's a great picture of the two of them. They look a little bit alike, I think. It's a compliment to both ladies.

My goodness, such beautiful pictures. I'm sorry to hear the news. It's truly wonderful that your grandma had the experience of seeing your daughter. Maddie may not remember, but when she looks at these pictures, she'll feel it.

Hugs. I'm so sorry. Maddie might remember. She'll remember it somewhere, even if not in a way that can be articulated.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother, but I'm so glad your grandma got to see her great-grandchild. :) Good for her. (A similar thing happened in my family, where my grandmother got to see my niece a few years before passing away. It's a beautiful thing.)

Sorry for your loss . . .I hope that Maddie remembers her as years go by. . . . The pictures will help.

Thanks, guys. This is the first family member I've had die since living in the US, so the isolation is getting to me. Sorry to hear about your Grandma too, Doohickie.

Oh, gaspode, I'm so sorry for your loss. Looking at those lovely photos, I can imagine what a blessing that trip was, though --- to you, to your grandmother, and someday to your daughter.

Big hugs to you podie. I'm so sorry to hear this, but so very glad you all were together in August. I understand about the isolation.

Also, there's hope: Maddie might remember it. I met my great-gran when I was a baby and this memory escaped me for decades but a while back I had a flashback to it and could describe to my mother perfectly accuratly how she smelled (lavender perfume + old lady), what she wore, how the sun was shining in from the large window, and how I was kicking her soft tummy as she held me in her lap. I could even recall some decorative pieces that caught my eye.

Aw, 'pode, I'm so sorry. I lost my grandma a couple months ago too; it's a unique kind of loss, I think, since grandmas often occupy such a unique place in our lives.

I'm glad the 'podelet got to meet her, and that she got to meet the 'podelet. I'm sure that was really special to her.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandma, gaspode. I still have a grandma but she's declining swiftly, and I hope she's still around to see her great-grandchildren. I'm really glad yours got to meet your daughter.

Sorry about your grandma, I am glad you got a chance to say goodbye and to show off Maddie. I'm sure she was happier and passed easier knowing she'd seen you and met the baby.

Aw, I'm sorry gaspode. She looks like she was a sweetheart. That's so great you both got to see her before she passed.

(Seconding that she could possibly remember it. I have one or two cloudy memories from when I was still in diapers.)

Awww, ((gaspode)). I'm so sorry to hear this.

I am seconding everyone who said how lucky it is you got to visit her this year, and what a cool picture for your daughter to see when she gets older. I'd love to have a picture of me with my grandfather, who I apparently met when I was a baby, but there don't seem to be any pictures. Maddie will treasure that picture someday!

I missed this thread. I'm so sorry, gaspode. I scanned bunches of photos last night that had my grandma in them. I'm going to have an extremely hard time when she dies. Even just imagining it makes my stomach drop.

In other words, I'm feeling for you. BIG big hugs, dear.
