WhooHoo! Mecha radio is back. sorta. I have launched MetaRadio. First broadcast at 3:30 ET. Songs about radio![More:]

16 96kb slots for your broadcasting and listening pleasure. It's not a Metachat project but it does revolve around Metachat. Like #bunnies in irc.

Three bunnies have funded a month each. We will see how it goes. If people like it maybe it can stick around.

If you want to dj just send me your mecha user name, and your gmail account (for booking time on the calendar). I'll send you a pdf with all the info to get you started.

Here is the site MetaRadio.info.

I also have a question I hope someone may be able to help with. There used to be a number of scripts to publish Loudcity stats on a web page. Things like station is on or off air, number of listeners, and last 5 or 10 songs. None of those scripts work any more. The new scripts I can find take their stats from the broadcast software itself. I don't think that is a viable solution as we will likely have dozens of broadcasters.

Is there a solution out there I have missed or has Loudcity cut off that possibility? The Loudcity forums are of no help.
WHOO HOO! I've never had a fast enough connection to listen before --- I'll be tuning in today for the first time ever!

Thanks for doing this, arse_hat!

Got the PDF, but still can't get the widget to play.
posted by The Whelk 18 November | 15:54
TheWhelk can you use one of the buttons to launch a player?
posted by arse_hat 18 November | 15:58
It's on! It works! IT'S BACK!

Yay!! You're a hero, arse_hat!

Yeah but then - nothing. Lemme fiddle (I'M MISSING ELVIS COSTELLO! ARH!)
posted by The Whelk 18 November | 15:59
Whelk, just go to the link arsey posted, then click on one of the "external player" buttons (WinAmp, Windows Media, RealPlayer). Once it starts (and it takes a minute), you don't even have to keep the page open.
posted by BoringPostcards 18 November | 16:02
Windows media says it can't play it and the stalwart iTunes refuses to make sounds.
posted by The Whelk 18 November | 16:09
And:
The Ataris - Radio #2
Elvis Costello - Radio Radio
John Hiatt - Pirate Radio
Jimi Hendrix Experience - Radio One
The Clash - This Is Radio Clash
The Southland - Radio

Hmm, Whelk I'll take a look at Loudcity and see if they have any ideas.
posted by arse_hat 18 November | 16:11
D'oh! I can't listen in, and the LoudCity "Help" for Mac users is "Linux and Mac users...you guys a are pretty capable and we're sure you know your options in this Windows-centric world of players."

Their hearty vote of confidence is not as helpful as they seem to think.

Still, I think it's keen that you're doing this, arse_hat! I salute you!

Adding, lest you think I'm asking for help: I'll sort this out on my end some other day --- in the meantime, it's swell that you're spinning on the air! Enjoy!

This evening I'll try to suss out the direct link addresses and see if that helps.

Thanks, arse_hat, it was sweet. It definitely made my last hour of work fly by!

Great news! When I get home I'm going to dig in and hopefully nab some air time. I had very little of my collection digitized the last go around, but now I have 40,000+ songs ripped to the hard drives, so I am locked cocked, and ready to rock.

By the way - great playlist. I have a list I've been building for a themed mix disc with a slew of other radio songs. Maybe I can do a sequel theme.

I used to have a ruby script that checked the shoutcast server every couple of minutes and copy the data out to a database (I also had an incompetent bit of rails as the front-end). If you want the scripts then send me an e-mail and I'll send them over.
