23 October 2009

It being that i have all these things at home, I know what I'll be doing tonight. It's been a grueling unpleasant week--with random bright spots--hurray for the weekend.
Race ya. I never did have my hot toddy.

that is a damn shame. You should have that toddy.

I'm having toad-in-the-hole with onion gravy (out of a packet, quite unabashedly) and peas and carrots and a beverage with goats on it. Autumnal food.

Mmm, toad in the hole.

Hang on.

[a quick Googling confirms that toad in the hole is, indeed, the delicious-sounding thing I think it is.]

Mmm, toad in the hole. That sounds perfect for a cool evening.

Me, I'm having black bean soup (leftover), a piece of fresh homemade challah, and an apple.

And I think I'll dip into some spirits later, though mine will probably be a cup of cocoa with a good slug of something in it: maybe Kahlua, maybe something else. I'm having a pretty fierce sweet tooth lately, and a cup of cocoa is a simple way to sate it.

It's like literally less than a minute to make the yorkshire pudding batter, you throw it and the sausages in the oven and 20-25 minutes later you're eating gobs of your very best comforting calories.

And it's cold and pouring down rain outside and I'm in here all toasty listening to it beat against the roof. Bwahahaha.

Sounds so nice! I love love love Yorkshire pudding --- though technically they're just popovers when I make 'em, since I use butter instead of drippings.

I'm having usually frequent --- and unusually specific --- meat cravings lately (yes, as well as sweet craving), and it looks like toad in the hole will be added to that list.

I hope you have enough for all of us, Wolfdog!

The mister and I are having our usual Friday dinner - Nachos. Yummm!

I don't have meat cravings very often, but I did last night. I had a pork tenderloin in the freezer. Seared it, set it aside. Carmelized some onions in the drippings (with some butter). Added chopped apples and pears and cooked it way down with some white wine. Added caraway. Coated the tenderloin with mustard, then sprinkled on caraway, fennel seeds, and lots of black pepper. Put it on top of the fruit/onion mixture and roasted at 400 for about 15 minutes.

It was seriously yummy, and perfect for the season.

(We're going to a new pizza place for dinner tonight. They have a great patio and it's a nice night, so I *was* looking forward to it. However, within the past hour I've started to feel feverish -- achy, chills, skin hurts. I do believe I'm getting a little sick after the flu shot I got yesterday, WHICH HAPPENS EVERY DAMN TIME I GET A FLU SHOT.)

(Stupid flu shots.)

and it was yummy. And I am full of yuca.

Huh, I was going to bitch about your being able to get Peruvian food delivered but a quick Google tells me that I can get Peruvian chicken and yuca delivered.
