Ignore Everybody Thoughts on living the creative life, from No Depression.
That's one for the Blue. Seriously. Please post that.

"One is the sexy, creative kind." I've always been mystified by this. Creative work like dance, writing, painting, sculpture, architecture, acting, auteur film work, and music all seem to me among the loneliest, most grinding, sad, and fickle, pursuits. I love that people do those things but don't see them as at all sexy.

Life is full of lonely, grinding, sad, fickle pursuits. They are separated by all the good stuff.

Thank you, Miko. I needed that.
I've got painting deadlines to meet.

I needed that refresher as my show previews tonight and opens tomorrow. It may alienate the subscriber base and won't wow critics, but I did this show, with these tools, and told this story, the way I had to.

Pithy list, but lots of good advice. I wish I could bang some of these points into the actors I know who are so hungry for recognition - even local recognition. Just do it.

I love the "good ideas have a lonely childhood" bit.

j_p, I blew my post for today, but maybe I'll post it tomorrow. Subjective lists like this don't do all that well on MeFi, because they tend to invite the "this list isn't that great, or at least as great as my Platonic ideal of the list I would have made had I gotten off my ass and made one, and here's why" dissection, but it is a good piece and I'm up for it and not feeling like it needs defense.

Point well taken, but you know where I'm coming from; I think that the commenters there are fickle and weird and there's no damn way to predict how any given post will be received. So just do what you like and if people like it, they like it. If they don't, maybe they'll like the next one.

You have to ignore everybody and post it.

That's my general take on it. Don't get me wrong, I don't care when people don't like stuff I post, I am just reluctant to post stuff that might make for a dull conversation. But since this seems to be causing people to have some interesting thoughts in response, I'm game.

Thanks Miko, that was great.

It pretty much went how I thought it would. This kind of thing really plays better here.
