San Antonio Rant: Nearly broke my wrist falling on the sidewalk and banged my knees up pretty bad. Everyplace is blasting NFL games, I don't have a car and I'm completely sick of anything related to or shaped like The Alamo, Texas, or a vague Mexican design. Hopefully the Meetup tomorrow will life my spirits.
You're down at the RiverWalk? It is pretty touristy and very Texanna. There's some good Mexican and TexMex to be had there. You should be lucky that the Cowboys aren't playing today. Then again if they were playing my favorite past time when I was living in Texas was going to the bar and cheering for whoever the Cowboys were playing. Never got my ass kicked but then again, I was in Austin which is a little more tolerant than the rest of the state.

It is too bad you don't have a car since going to the other Missions of San Antonio is better than the damn Alamo tourist trap downtown. My only recollection of the Alamo was that the doorways were so low. Apparently the heros of the Republic of Texas were little guys (this is born out in the some of the statues in the Texas Capitol building as well).

Yah, in the Hilton, I'm tagging along for a conference.

I will admit that most of my bad mood comes from being kinda stuck (have not mastered the bus system) and having my dominate hand all banadaged and hurt AND my legs.

I was there for a conference several years ago. After an evening session, I went for a stroll and ended up on the Riverwalk. On a Sunday night it was fairly deserted. I decided to sit at their outdoor cafe and have myself a flourless chocolate cake. Best. Dessert. Ever. The moon was shining on the river, all was quiet and peaceful, and I was basically alone on the patio.

I wish I could remember the name of the hotel of which the restaurant was a part. I'm pretty sure the restaurant had an Italian name; it was definitely European in decor (no TexMex at all). The hotel was really upscale, but pretty much all of them are.

Skip Casa Rio if you want good TexMex. It's been a long time since I've been there, but it's always been known for crappy food. The official River Walk site is here.

Hmmm, lots more restaurants then when I was there last (10 years ago).

Are you still there? Take public transport to the McNay and SA art museum (which has a mandala that the Dalai Lama allowed to be preserved).
