AskMeCha: My wife is a few thousand KM away, with her trusty EEEPC 701 running EEEBUNTU. I want to figure out how to do video chat so my son can see his mom.[More:]
I stupidly forgot to set this up before she left, and while she's no slouch (her main computer is running Linux, after all), she's not techie enough to figure out on her own how to set this up. I'm not a Linux guru either, unfortunately.
Any (dead) simple to install software or website that would allow us to see each other? I'm on Windows7, ITMAD.
I wish I had the know-how to help with this. I know a lady in my lab uses skype on a regular basis to talk to her fella overseas. I don't know anything about skype, but I'm not ashamed to ask her the next time I see her. She manages to get it installed by herself on several different machines without my help, and that's saying something.

Sorry to not be more help. Hope you have enough phone minutes in the meantime.

Skype is probably the best answer for free video chatting - there's a Linux version for download here and a Windows version for you here.

At the bottom of the Linux download page is a list of other required/recommended software; not sure how that would impact things.

Also, if all else fails, one of you can buy some Skype credit and just call the other person's landline/mobile - it's 3¢ a minute if the user is calling the US or one of the other countries on this list. All-country rate chart here.

Happy calling!
