Funny names I have recently run across.→[More:]
Ms Sidebottom
Dr Polychronopulos
Dr Pepper
Mr Zygmunt Krukowski
Mr Penistone
Mr Wardrobe
Toby Lumber
I know a Mr. Fatas whose sibilant-initial first name led to an improprietous encounter with the local email account naming scheme, which is of the lastnamefirstinitial variety.
Sidebottom is quite common in Yorkshire, so seems normal to me. Never seen Penistone as a person's name, though it is likewise known in Yorkshire as the name of a place.
I knew a family called Kirton and they were seriously considering naming any future daughter Annette (luckily for everyone, they only had sons).
Oh, and I used to work with Richard Dangle, who did, indeed, go by "Dick."
Whoa... I was a student at West Georgia while he was the dean. When did you work with him, mrmoonpie? (I was a student at the same time as his daughter, Brenda.)
I should start writing down the names of doctors that have great superhero names; I made the mistake of telling Doctor Justice that once, and she was quite nonplussed. (The latest would be Doctor Stoneking.) Also note this noted entomologist.
Yeah, Kirby is an awesome name! We used to have a snake named Kirby. Ball python. Furniture you feed.
I went to high school with a girl whose grandfather was named Richard Head, but he didn't go by "Dick". He did, however, name his son "Vivian", which sounded kinda weird in Alabama.
I also once edited a case report on internal damage caused by improper colonoscopy technique co-authored by a Dr. Butz.
I also worked with a Dr. Brilliant, who unfortunately was NOT a psychiatrist or neurologist. I think he was an endocrinologist...
And I have also met real people named Homer Simpson and Charlie Brown.
I think being called "Kirby" and looking like I do would just concentrate my animate Scottishness into a dense firey ball.
I made the mistake of telling Doctor Justice that once, and she was quite nonplussed.
Man, what kind of dour kill-joy are if you have that name and you don't burst into patient's rooms announcing "HAVE NO FEAR, DOCTOR JUSTICE IS HERE AND YOUR INFECTION IS ...CRIMINAL."?
