Hey you DIY'ers, what's wrong with my washing machine? Can I fix it myself? Note:I have very few fixit skills.[More:]

I have a top loading washer, about 14 years old, a Hotpoint VWXR4100T. Recently the tub has been rotating during the wash cycle (during agitation). Not like the spin at the end of the cycle, but slower. I think whatever anchored the tub during agaitation has failed, and the agitator is spinning it. Also, the tub fails to brake at the end of the spin cycle. It just spins free for a while.

Any ideas? I may take this to askme later on but thought I'd try here first. I first need to figure out how to get the front of the case off... Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
Maybe one of the belts broke? Have you opened up the cabinet yet?

I'm hoping it's just something like a belt that I can replace. I haven't got the cabinet opened yet. It's not obvious how to do it. Some internet searching may help, but I'm on to fixing dinner for now.
