Scary cake. Went to KFC for the first time in about 5 years. I ordered this cake, and ...[More:]actually, it was pretty tasty. After eating it for a couple of days, I go away for a week, forgetting about the remaining cake on the counter. (Covered, but not entirely sealed, in its plastic container.)

I return home, and the cake is still there. Completely not stale, fresh, looks fine, no creatures on it, so I eat the rest. Tastes exactly the same as it did 10 days ago. No harm done, no food wasted.

But I wonder, just what the HECK was that cake made of?!
Lots and lots of preservatives.

(Then again, I made homemade cinnamon rolls that survived a MONTH in my fridge and were just as tasty at the end as they were fresh out of the oven. I was a bit scared too.)

My mind is blown. You can order cake at a KFC? Was it spicy crispy cake?

Now if only they could do the same for their extra-crispy chicken.

It's made from the blood of the innocent.

There was something on a Science Lab Podcast about how a twinkie lasted on a researchers desk for over two years. I'm guessing the KFC cake is made of the same weird stuff.

I'm reminded of a comment Paula Poundstone once made, "It's not health food unless there is a chocolate outer coating. It's the chocolate that protects the food and keeps it fresh."
